The only thing, so far, I've found from Amazon Prime that you can't get on other devices is "borrowing" a book. With a Prime membership and a Kindle device you can borrow one book a month for free. You have to request the book from a Kindle device. Having Kindle on your PC or another device won't work.
I've borrowed a few, but the selection isn't such that it would have convinced me to buy a Kindle, if I didn't already have one. You can pretty well get everything else from Prime, movies, books, and such, on other devices.
If you're reading e-books on your PC, you definitely need a tablet. Reading a book on a tablet is a whole different experience from reading one on a PC. I read everything, e-books, newspapers, and magazines on my tablet. I have a subscription to National Geographic, for instance. The tablet version includes videos you wouldn't get from the print version. I have an app for it on my IPad, which, in my opinion, has better apps than does the Android devices.
