Elementary (on CBS)

Post by Dave (imported) »

This year is a "Sherlock Holmes" year and CBS has launched a new version...

Holmes is transplanted to New York with a daring idea of Lucy Liu as Watson.

It's a police procedural and it tries too hard.

But guess the killer before Holmes will be fun to watch.

I have not yet watched it. How do you think it compares to the Sherlock series from the UK which I recorded from my local PBS station. (I still have it on the external drive for my Dish 722 PVR. I do not intend to erase it.)

I liked Cumberbatch's characterization better BUT the British version is all tied up in family angst which does not interest me.

This version is a bit sterile and he's too brilliant unless they soften him a bit. Take for instance the NCIS gang and that trtuly dysfunctional bunch that sent from THE CLOSER to MAJOR CRIMES. Based on one show (which is probably unfair) ELEMENTARY is all procedural with no heart. It's a bit like Holmes looks at everyone and sees all their flaws and is socially incapable of handling the situation well. Time will tell if that was first show jitters.

I tried to watch Elementary for Lucy Liu's sake

but got bored out of it. And she lost some cute with age too.

Mostly, I am tired of the mentally deranged savant type plots becoming too common.

Go back to the blind or deaf savant please. 🙄

Or otherwise physically disabled savant, but the mentally deranged thingie is just - - 💤

The 2 hour season finale is an amazing story. It's half over and has me begging the screen for season 2.

It has this twist, you see.

By far the best episode of the season.

I watched the two-part finale episode of season 2 last night and was surprised to find the date is one year after the last post.

I enjoyed it.

There were a couple episodes of this season that dragged and felt silly and stupid, routine even. That's the kiss of death. And then when most modern

retellings of Sherlock Holmes involved Mycroft Holmes, usually fall into really boring family dynamics.

This finale with Mycroft Holmes didn't do that. Mycroft is not the Brit Twit or fat-assed government Minister of Buffoons With All the Power of God Almighty in the plot arc of the show.
