Autumn

Autumnal season. My favorite.

It is here already.

Easing off those terribly long days.

I can understand loving Spring after a White Winter.

I can understand those who like the heat of Summer (ugh) for various activities.

But, I have always been fondest of Autumn.

So wonderful Autumn to all.

Enjoy the cool, the wish to get cozy,

and a bit of time to relax before the Holiday Survival mode is required.

Autumn is the time for beautiful coloured trees.

But also for falling leaves.

It is also season for mushrooms.

And nuts.

I love each season for what it brings, I don't think I have a favorite however sometimes winter can stretch a bit longer then needed.

Each season has a place that without it the others would not survive so I view each as necessary to the others. I guess you could say its a pagan thing.

As River well knows, I am quite cold-blooded. It has to be +80F before I take off the hoodie. At last count, I had 9 of them.

I do not look forward to autumn, even though I was getting quite tired of the +100F weather.

Now it's five months or so of long underwear, insulated boots, and space heaters.

I guess then, I'm warm-blooded. I also reside in a room that contains inadequate ventilation, plus more than it's fair share of electronics. Three computers, three monitors, two UPS systems, one television, etc, not to mention one larger-than-average person putting out a fair amount of heat as well. Combine this with the fact that I live near Vancouver, the Canadian city that had to import snow to hold the Winter Olympics.

What does this mean? Fall means I can look forward to soon turning off the box fan I have running 24/7 in the window. Spring means I put the box fan back up. Summer means I sweat my frigging ass off, as even at night it doesn't tend to drop below 80 in this room. And winter? Well, during those exceptionally cold nights, those few nights each year when it might hit 20f outside or slightly lower.... on those nights....

I consider maybe closing the window.

I sympathizes my friend, actually spring and autumn are the best times when there is no window fan or AC and the heat is still off. I open the house up and let in the fresh air day and night. No matter how cold I still manage to get one foot out from under the covers at night. The other day we went out and GEM wondered how I could still have sandals on when it was 50 out. Hell I might be still be using them until the snow comes, then I might need socks.

For those of you who have never met Paolo or me, Paolo is about 140 lbs of skin and bone, me I am 260 and all that padding keeps me warmer then I would like and without it keeps my friend in a hoodie.

I should move further north and Paolo to the equator.

Harvest decorations and Halloween a comin'

I have a scarecrow in the front of my house.

And for Halloween I dress it in a Pope costume.

Anyone offended would be told it was my Santos for "All Saint's Day"

I mean what would be scarier then a scarecrow in a Pope costume.

How about a child size scarecrow next to it. Maybe with a "Scream" mask for Halloween.

I still have to buy the mask.

Making the Most of the Season

I open the house up and let in the fresh air day and night.

Sounds like winter in Arizona. Actually, I live up in the mountains. After the dramatic skies of the summer monsoon thunderstorms, fall is just gorgeous with clear blue skies and leaves turning. Fall is just a nice season all over the northern hemisphere. I never got that sense in South America. Oh well. Their losss is our gain.
