i have turned the news off this week so i dont have to hear anything about it
Slammr (imported) wrote: Tue Jul 24, 2012 11:57 am It's not the fault of the media. We the public want to hear about it. If we didn't, the media wouldn't waste their time on it. Possibly, because they are guaranteed publicity, through 24 hour cable news coverage and the Internet, more nuts do things like this thinking they will become famous, but that's because of technology. Media is just doing their job, reporting the news.

These nuts, thinking to become famous - infamous - do these things, but they are failures at even that. Who will remember this guy's name (I refuse to so much as list it) five years from now. Who knows the name of the Virginia Tech shooter without looking it up? I don't. I had to look up the name of the killer of John Lennon even. If one of these nuts doesn't kill someone like John Kennedy or Martin Luther King, no one is going to remember him, and we only remember someone like Harvey Lee Oswald because he's linked forever in our memories with John F. Kennedy.

Certainly, his victims and the families of those victims will never forget this guy, but five years from now, few of us will remember his name.

You and me both, the best way to reject this kind of media is not to turn it on.

I am most decidedly liberal and I have never owned, nor will I, a gun. But having said that, gun bans are not the way to go. Americans are some violent people, it's what makes us who we are. You never know who is either going to pull a gun or go home and get a gun and pull it on you. This makes people act differently than in passive societies. Gun bans only hurt gun enthusiasts and rarely keep criminals from obtaining them. This guy was squeaky clean, he could have bought a tank if had the money. No gun ban in the world would have stopped this guy. He was on a mission. Plus, it's who we are as a people. I like that the world knows Americans are some violent people. That we kill 30,000 of our fellow citizens a year just for the sake of killing. That every man knows there is a limit to what he can say and do before it crosses a line that could get one killed. And our prisons are full of people willing to pay the price to keep this the violent place that it is.

NO, you are not safe out there and you never will be. Living free is a risk. And if you disagree, someone may just hunt you down and point an automatic weapon at you with a large capacity clip, ensuring that you and your family die. Let everyone live in fear.

I am sure the gun lobby will use this to show why citizens need to be armed. Even though he wore full body armor and a helmet with a throat and groin protector, it makes it clear he had considered that someone may be armed in the audience. A good headshot could have saved a lot of lives. That is what the gun lobby will say. Yes, let's remain a violent society.

Am I the only one here that smells something very fishy here.Tell me how did that kid who dosent have a job buy 20.000 dollars worth of government equipment .......well not all government but enough. And who opened the door for this kid to get in there. Why would this kid who was supposed to be the joker and if he were really acting the part and wanted to kill all he could just surrender without a fight. And if he really was playing the part why did he tell the police he had booby taped his apartment. There is to many questions and not enough answers here for me and right before this so called UN treaty that would take our guns away from us.Yes to me there are to many things here that just do not make sense and I feel there is much more to this story them we will ever here about.

Sag, good to see you posting, I have missed you.

I don't think the UN has that kind of authority or mandate to dictate what a country can do on an individual person. Our guns are safe, we can still buy automatic assault guns with 100 round clips. I don't know where you herd that but it is somebody trying to wind you up, looks like they were successful.

As for this Joker, give him a fast speedy trial, lock him up throw away the key and forget he ever existed.

To much time and energy has already wasted on this guy.

as to the UN, pretty much its entire history shows that it can only throw its weight around when it comes to rogue and/or collapsed nations. and that's if that rogue nation hasn't got a friend on the security council. the only groups that aren't completely safe from the UN are warlords & degenerated rebel movements(atrocities on civilians, child soldiers, etc...).

Official: Trap in Colorado suspect's home had 30 homemade grenades, gasoline

By Poppy Harlow and Ed Payne, CNN

Aurora, Colorado (CNN) -- The suspect in last week's deadly shooting rampage at a crowded Colorado movie theater boobytrapped his apartment with more than 30 homemade grenades and 10 gallons of gasoline, a law enforcement official who viewed video from inside the apartment told CNN Monday night.

The sophisticated set up at the sparsely furnished Aurora home of James E. Holmes was meant to harm, or possibly kill, anyone who entered -- and tested the skills of bomb squad members charged with clearing it.

"Imagine that fireball ... you would have an explosion that would knock down the wall of (nearby) apartments," the official said. "That flame would have consumed the entire third floor (of the apartment complex)."

"By the time a fire truck would have arrived, they would have arrived to a building that would have been completely consumed in flames."

The grenades were wired to a control box in the kitchen, which bomb technicians disabled with the help of a remote-controlled robot that squirted water on it.

"It looked like spaghetti," according to the official, who said it resembled setups that are used in Iraq and Afghanistan, but rarely in the United States.

The control box has been sent to Quantico, Virginia, for forensic analysis at the FBI laboratory, the official said.

But the setup appears to have been "rigged" so that it would have exploded, according to the official. A "post-blast analysis" will determine if it would have worked.

The gasoline was divvied up into glass containers and gas cans in order to "enhance the thermal effect of the explosion," the official said.

Over the weekend, Aurora Police Chief Daniel Oates told reporters there was "evidence of ... some calculation and deliberation" in the Friday attack at the Century Aurora 16 multiplex.

Holmes received deliveries over the past four months at his home and work addresses, which begins to explain how he may have obtained some of the materials used in the attack and those found at his apartment, Oates said.

The University of Colorado School of Medicine, where Holmes enrolled as a doctoral candidate in its neuroscience program but later withdrew, was investigating whether he received any of the alleged shipments while working as a research assistant at the Anschutz Medical Campus.

I was wondering why the price of tin-foil had gone up exponentially the past couple of days. *shrugs*

The tragedy of truly terribly tragic events is that enough events and people being aware of them eventually seems to result in people forming patterns from the events, and the patterns forming ways of understanding such events so as to bring forth the possibility of understanding such events accurately enough to start working effectively toward preventing them in the future.

Before I was a year old, I had observed aspects of what I have, ever since early infancy, experienced as abuse, and did so well enough to knowingly reject going through the traditional infant-child transition that is typical at the age of about 18 months.

More than seven decades later, I continue to regard the usual transition from infancy to childhood as a biologically temporary necessity which is also a biological atrocity.

My work in theoretical and applied biology continues to inform me that the usual infant-child transition and its accompanying amnesia for pre-transition life experiences is characteristic of brain-shattering, terrifyingly coercive, abuse of person and personhood.

Having worked around young children in a major city children's hospital, it has long been sadly clear to me that the usual transition from infancy to childhood is of the nature of a devastating and inescapable, coercively-induced psychotic break which commonly generates a sustained psychosis in the form of a thwarted trauma freeze discharge. (Sorry, that is the language as used in the relevant trauma literature that I have read.)

The terrible conduct of mass murderers is quite plausibly, in my view, of the form and function of a form of flashback to a time of unbearable terror as an aspect of the induction of trauma for the sake of supposed obedience to authority.

To borrow from a song sung by Pete Seeger (and others), "When will we ever learn?"

Lonely ..unhappy nerds have become very dangerous ...people need to concentrate on the unhappy person that lives next door to you...they are more dangerous than any gun.

I disagree.

The BIGGEST problem that we have is people who think that they are always right and that everyone else is always wrong. They constantly will hang a label on a group of people that is unlike them. You know the type. They make fun of the very intelligent, the educated, the transgendered, the Gay, the Eunuch, the (...fill in the blank...)

These folks are so insanely IGNORANT, (...and nuttier than a Squirrel TURD...) that they imagine themselves a patriotic Americans while they condone the insanely rich running for President, while hiding MILLIONS from their income in off shore accounts in the Cayman Islands, Swiss Bank accounts, and in foreign countries.

They sit up nights watching propaganda that agitates them with innuendos, half truths and outright lies while picturing themselves as loyal Americans. They claim to want to limit immigration but they hire migrants without green cards to do their hardest, dirtiest labor that Americans used to humane working conditions will not touch.

They picture themselves as human individuals but then they find a passive-aggressive way to tell people that they hate them and everything they stand for because they are just intolerant bastards, worse than any NAZI that God ever gave breath.

They INSIST on the legislation FORCING their morality in the name of GOD when they will burn in hell just the same as those who are too blind to concede charity, tolerance and forgiveness to their fellow human beings. They hide behind laws while exhibiting a total lack of ethics, exhibiting injustice, immorality, and evilness that would make Satan himself sick with shame. Or they will simply die and their dust will mingle with the dust of those whom they choose to hate because they think that they are better than them.

They deny basic medical care to their fellow human beings in the name of making a buck and then condone the CEO's and the CFO's of large medical corporations and medical insurance companies making tens of millions of dollars in salaries from literally sucking the life's blood in money from dying individuals and their relatives that are not ready to see them die.

No, this insane person will get some measure of justice. However, like the ones that I have mentioned in the paragraphs above, his justice will NEVER equal the injustice that he has perpetrated upon the world and that he continues to perpetrate upon the world. Yes, they will all die and nobody will be able to reason why they had to live to do so much evil in the first place.
