Good morning, folks.

My first name is Paul-Newell and I am writing a paper about asexuality in the broadest sense, people who do not have, or have very little sex. I am reaching out to your community, because I feel there is great power in academic analysis, and that critical thinking supports activism.

Let me be very clear. I am not imposing labels of Gender, Queer or Disabled on anyone in this community, however, these are the frameworks for my thinking. I myself have one testicle, and eunuch status may very well be an element of my future identity. Gender Theory, Queer Theory and Disability Theory are making fascinating statements about what it means to be different, Other, non-normal: and about the intrinsic Power that difference and Otherness possess. It is because of our differences that we are powerful in this contemporary society that tries to oppress us.

So, please respond to this thread if you have any interest in my project. I am a literature of contemporary culture student, so suggestions for texts from popular culture― songs, comics, novels, jokes, poems, really good blogs. Or if you would be interested in talking to me― not an interview, a conversation― about your identity and life and loves. Or if you have any previous posts that you feel insightful that you would like to share with a wider range of people, please draw these to my attention.

The Asexuality Visibility and Education Network has very strict guidelines for interviewing members and quoting posts, which I will follow to the letter. Only with your consent will any opinion expressed to me be referenced. If it is your preference, I will give you full credit for any idea or insight I find valuable to my paper. If you prefer to not be mentioned by name, anonymity is a definite option.

Welcome and you are not the first to drop by to write about us. Some members in the past have been interviewed only to find themselves sensationalized. As far as academic papers go several have already been written and published. Several members helped compose survey questions regarding the community and many of us took the survey.

You might want to use the search forum to get an idea what has already been completed. Since many of us are leery to participate you might want to PM Jesus, Kristoff or Paolo. Another issue is some are here for fantasy and for others it is a reality and I am sure you would need to know the difference.

As well intentioned as this person may be I'll be declining their offer. Tugon is right, many have come here offering to write about us with an even hand and be neutral on the topic only to end up writing a paper or article that amounted to nothing more than, "look at the freaks..."

Agreed, most likely the best we could do is direct you to Jesus, and I am sure he will most likely contact you.
