I've been fighting major depression most of my life. For the last 6 months I've been on Depo provera. This last month I've fought a major battle with depression. I was wondering If i could get some peoples thoughts as to if i may be better off with depression if i stopped the chem cast?
Thank you
JD

Re: Low T and depreson
Depression has many causes and castration does bring on depression in many eunuchs. I myself fell into a pit of deep darkness and was rescued by my doctor who put me on Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), I began using a testosterone patch and it lifted me out of the doldrums rather quickly. So I think chemical castration may be making your depression worse or exacerbating your depression.

Depression is a real bitch of an ailment and I really sympathise with you. I suffered regular episodes of depression since my mid-teens. The cause was never established, despite several sessions with a psychiatrist, but I suspect it was due to gender issues. I've only had one period of depression (in 2006) since castration in 2001. I now believe that particular episode was triggered by financial problems and that lack of Testosterone exacerbated the depression. My Doctor prescribed Citalopram and a low dose of HRT, and after 9 months I was OK and gave up both drugs. Maybe you could consider reducing the dose of Depo Provera and taking an anti-depressant at the same time. I wish you luck.

I have also suffered from depression and anexity and it did get worse when I first started the chem castration. But I went to my docs and got some anti-depresion meds (citalopram also was what I got) and it worked well. Knowing that you are suffering is half the battle. I went straight from the drugs to being a eunuch, so there wasnt any really change in my T level to have a further mood change.
Take it slow, talk to your doctor and if you get real bad call a friend and have them come stay with you until it passes.

Thank you guys.
I was not satisfied with how much of a sex drive I had after several months of the DP. I started taking andicour that i had left over form an attempt at chem cast a few years ago. I think the shock of that to my system may be a big part of what has me down atm.

I am fairly well read, but certainly not an authority on chem cast.
The body is affected by an entire "menu" of hormones.
One can not guess or assert beliefs to determine why one feels this way or that way.
An endoctrinologist can have a panel of tests done to analyze various hormone levels.
Too little or too much of various hormones have a cascade effect on other hormones, and any one of them, or several of them, too high, too low, can cause all kinds of abnormal situations in one's mind, body, physical or emotional state.
Personally I know that a sudden drop in testosterone did have an impact upon my mind, emotions, and body, and in a negative way. I call it Testosterone Deficiency Syndrome. (TDS). Men with normal range testosterone (for their age group), experience changes in mind, body, emotions as they age, but it is kind of like watching hair grow, grass grow, or even hair fall out. It happens so slowly it is not noticed from day to day, week to week, month to month, even year to year. But eventually it becomes apparent - youth is merely a memory. But by adding chemicals to our bodies to effect a sudden change in hormones, there is most likely to be changes similar to aging, or some other experience, but suddenly, and they are noticeable.
Sometimes stopping a medication suddenly is not advised. Like with Siterone; the instructions are very clear about NOT stopping it suddenly.
As for chem cast, I have no idea if one neeeds to wean off of it, or if stopping it is a good idea.
At some point authoritative input is advisable when it comes to starting or stopping medication, when prescribed, and especially if not under medical care.

Re: Low T and depreson
Are you sure it's depression you are feeling? I suffer low testosterone and thought I was suffering depression. The difference between depression and low energy is that I at least have the desire to go out into the world and enjoy it. I just lack the energy to do so.
