Robinson Crusoe on Mars

Tonight, I watched an old science-fiction that came out in 1964 called, "Robinson Crusoe on Mars." I found this old flick very enjoyable. It's the story of an astronaut that is stranded on the surface of Mars. He only has 60 hours of breathable air till he succombs. He learns his new environment and begins looking for sources of oxygen, potable drinking water and food.

He is assisted in this endeavor by a semi-trained monkey named Mona.

I consider the script very well-written. Unfortunately, it didn't do well at the box office.

Did anyone else see this 48 year old movie that came out the same year that I graduated from high school?

I have seen it and enjoyed the movie. I actually have seen it at least twice....several years apart.

Yeah, I remember that film. Starred Adam West of Batman fame. He had his own Friday who would give him these pills so he could get enough oxygen. I agree Mac, it wasn't a bad film.

I watched on TV and really enjoyed it. I watched it again on TV but that time the station had cut out so much of it that I did not like it at all.

Yes, I saw the movie.

In addition to enjoying it, I thought Paul Mantee was quite cute too.

I had forgotten that Adam West was in it for a few moments at the beginning.

This is one of my favorite movies from the '60s. I have always related to it strongly.

Unfortunately, it's over-long and the pacing drags in spots.

Adam West only has a minor role. I don't remember the real lead's name. He wasn't a big name actor.

The movie features a cute monkey, rocks that release oxygen when you heat them, an alien "Man Friday" slave that looks like Elvis in a Beatle wig (no joke), and the George Pal special effects borrowed from "War of the Worlds".

I recently realized that, at heart, I've always been an 18th century peasant trapped in the 21st century, my forebears having been railroaded into it. So the feeling of total isolation and alienation of this movie resonates strongly.

I don't watch TV or movies now. Haven't for years. "Fargo" kind of put an end to my movie watching. The simple, happy, unassuming people in that movie made me realize all I'd missed in a life overly devoted to cultural and intellectual pursuits. I would like to see "Teeth" and "Battle Royale", but I don't own the necessary equipment.

That is a movie that could use a good remake.

Keep the monkey.

Invasion from Mars is still better in the original.

This movie suffered from poor weapons special effects.

Dust those up, no extensive CGI and keep the rest the same.

Good movie.
