Yes, Dr Arnkoff does not do penectomies. This is a very complicated surgery and not usually done as an out patient.

I can understand the enthusiasm when we have a doctor that is willing to help the community. Asking about other services is not a bad thing.

I didnt expect the drainage to be as much as it was, but the amount according to the Doctor was not abnormal, peoples milage varries. And as for the bio hazard i threw the towels out wrapped in a double garabage bag. I did wear an adult diaper from his office instead of the strap and as well since. Its great for absorbing the draingage and the additional seepage once the drains are removed. I was originally going to leave the day after the surgery but extended my stay for 2 days instead of 1. A wise idea if you ask me, I had 6 hours of travel time and wouldnt have been able to do it without a lot of discomfort
And you have to keep the area covered in anti-biotic cream,
Good luck with what ever you decide.
Dave
Hey Dave,
Thanks again for the extra information, it helped.
I took some Depends disposable underwear along with the other options listed owing to the drains. He thought it was a really great idea, he also put a stack of 2"x2" gauze pads over the drains which soaked up a lot of the drainage but I think they are unnecessary. Biggest issue with them is when you change the undergarment, that stack of pads falls out on the floor; 'nuther mess to clean up. I also used a ladies light control incontinence panty over the top of the Depends as they fit closer and have a much wider crotch area which is also waterproof. Seems to work well without the gauze pads. He said he'd been putting in drains for the last while and it seemed to work better to control the swelling. He said to pull 'em out either tomorrow or Tuesday and showed me the stich holding them in, did you have any issues pulling those out?
Oh and I almost didn't do the return trip today as I was quite a bit more uncomfortable last night than I anticipated. Things were more tolerable this morning so I checked out and headed for the airport. I forgot about the 2 hour time difference and both planes were late, so I was about 11 hours from check out to getting home. LONG DAY but I'm glad I'm sitting here in the house right now.
I tried one beer last night and didn't like the results with the pain pills even though I'm only taking half what I could, so tonight I'm going to try beer and Ibuprofen, see how that works.
Any hints or suggestions about drain removal would be appreciated.

I had no trouble removing the drains, they came right out after cutting the one switch. You will see have some seepage afterward so you might want to use the depends or the pads for a while longer Even today as the stiches are dissolving I am getting some blood. Also make sure you put anti-biotic ointment on the wound at least a few times a day. I am using neosporin. Also dont be a hero about not taking the drugs. I used them for about 5 or 6 days. not the full dose but a few a day. Your body heals better when you are not under the stress of pain. I learned that after having my kidney removed. I will PM you my email if you want to get in direct contact. I usually on come on the site every other day or so.
Best
