Canadian health care is so great that Canadians who can afford to pay for their own health care come to the United States for major care. eh!
Mac, I will not make this personal, but I have to say... your statement is grossly incomplete. grossly.
You are simply regurgitating an opinion made by politicians and others who are desperate to make you USA citizens feel better about going broke from surgery and medical care.
Some Canadians, who don't want to wait a reasonable time and have pots of money, do choose to go to USA for certain treatments or tests. We have a shortage of MRI scanners, true. But if you present to emergency with an acute problem that needs an mri scan, you WILL get it immediately. Some folks choose to go to usa; that's fine. But we do get it when we need it.
Others choose to go to famous hospitals for treatment. Again, because they are rich, and want to do so. Whatever.
But don't try to insinuate that we are all desperately clawing our stricken hands against the shuttered doors of hospitals. Dude, that's a lie.
I had a hernia suddenly a few years back. Went to the doctor, he said I gotta have that fixed like now. Next day surgery. Excellent results.
Dad needed a new hip. He got his in the best place in North America for hip replacement, Winnipeg, Manitoba; it's known to have progressive, best-available doctors. Excellent results.
Mom died slowly of cancer over a few years. Doctors did excellent, world-class work. YES, we have excellent, well-paid doctors, not med-school dropouts who can't afford "real" work in the USA. Doctors LIKE working here; we don't have health-care stuffed suits telling them what they can and cannot do!! DOCTORS decide, here. WHere you are, the insurer decides.
AND GUESS WHAT, Mac. My treatment? Moms? Dad's? Countless others? I didn't pay a dime out of pocket. None of us do, except the obvious taxes.
* We get world-class health care. Don't believe the lies.
* We pay hardly different than you guys do in federal/provincial tax.
* We don't sign over our houses for treatment.
* But a few of us who are impatient, want quackery/untested treatments, or are filthy rich and want fine Damask cloth serviettes with our hospital food, choose to pay to go to the USA.
Just for heaven's sake stop ignorantly spreading that bullshit story that those of us who can "afford to pay for our own health care" go to the USA for "major care". Bullshit. With no outside insurance, my simple hernia surgery woulda set me back 14,000 if I went there. I got timely, excellent work done HERE.
