Reclast (Zoledronic Acid)

Post by bigdude1 (imported) »

Both my Primary Care Physician (PCP) & my Endocrinologist (Endo) are telling me that they're wanting me to go on something to make sure I don't develop osteoperosis. Apparently since I'm about to go in for gastric bypass surgery + the fact I'm on Lupron makes me a prime candidate for osteoperosis. From what I'm hearing from my doctors + what information I've dug up here on the net apparently Reclast (Zoledronic Acid) is the treatment du jour if you will.

For me personally a once a year IV treatment that takes about an hour is a small price to pay to preserve a major part of your health.

Just curious... What are others here doing, if anything, to protect themselves from osteoperosis?

I take two Calcichew tablets each day, one in the morning and one in the evening. Each tablet contains 1250mg calcium carbonate (equivalent to 500mg calcium) and 10 micrograms of vitamin D3. The tablets have to be chewed or sucked, which is no ordeal as they have a lemon flavour and are not at all unpleasant.
