My not-quite $700 "soak the public" county government pension check was deposited in my bank account today, so, if I drive slowly, but not too slowly, I expect to arrive at the Mothership region around 3:00 post meridian tomorrow. All I need to do is drive from the eastern shore of Wisconsin almost to the western shore. Most of the trip will be on Highway 29 and Interstate 94, which are four lane and my fuel-economy-necessary pace will not block the road. A 16 year old pickup truck and a 10 year old slide-in truck camper allow me to travel without needing a prosthetic colon.
I really admire our dear Wisconsin governor's notions of how government employees take advantage of the public dole. $700 per month is $8400 per year, which makes my pension insanely extravagant, given the federal poverty threshold for a family of one of $10,890. Fortunately, I worked in private industry for about four years prior to becoming an overpaid government employee, and, with Social Security from non-government employment, even with the government pension offset, which notably reduces my Social Security income, the combination does take me above the poverty line.
Only, I cannot afford to drive at the posted speed limits on major highways.
(For the sake of fairness, my wife worked as a public school teacher, and our combined income is adequate for us, provided that I do not drive fast enough to make fuel for the truck unaffordable.)
Highway fuel use per mile seems to minimize at about 50 miles per hour.
Pity that. Going faster than about 50 miles per hour on the Interstate could properly earn me a citation from a police officer for "going too fast for conditions," "conditions" meaning being able to pay the bills?
$6.00 of my pension went to fill up the propane tank so the truck camper refrigerator will work.
I am looking forward to meeting folks I never met before... And meeting again folks I met at last year's MoM.
And the Nordic Ware Krumkake "aluminum" iron and base are already in the camper.
As the satellite parking for the mother ship I expect JaneKane between 3 and 4 pm, then off to the BBQ. and Cauliflower salad oh yum. Damn now that brick will be heading my way.
We have already had our first out of resturant experience. Folks gathered here at the house for a couple of hours of good old fashioned cant-stop-laughing. Off to the record store they went.
I can't find my notebook case.. Where would that have gone?
