The Ultimate Drug

The Ultimate Drug, and It Tastes So Good too.

http://news.yahoo.com/sugar-regulated-t ... 05186.html

"Sugar and other sweeteners are, in fact, so toxic to the human body that they should be regulated as strictly as alcohol by governments worldwide, according to a commentary in the current issue of the journal Nature by researchers at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).

How can anything that feels so good be bad for you? 😄

We know chocolate is safe and even good for you. Unsweetened chocolate anyone?

This was reported in Australia today on the television show The Project. I call bullshit (or I am just conveniently ignoring the facts!). Right now I am eating chocolate....again ;)

I seem to remember when I was a little girl, all the cereals had the word "sugar" in their names: Sugar Frosted Flakes, Sugar Corn Pops, Sugar Smacks, Sugar Crisp, etc. So I did some probing, and sure enough, here's a Web site about it, to wit:

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/M ... ngredients

I don't think the recipes changed. They just took the word "sugar" out of the names. Somehow sugar went from being wholesome and good to the ultimate evil. If it's as bad as they say, then I've probably got one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel.

More scare tactics!! Every couple years some group of crack pot researchers comes out with a study saying that this or that will kill you. Remember the coffee scare? For a while some offices even eliminated the coffee machine, cause it was SO bad for employees. This is more of the same.

While it certainly is true that a steady diet of sugary foods, and virtually no veggies or fruit is not healthy, sugar is not the ogre that this group proposes.

Moderation in all things is the key. In my household, I do things like fry chicken in bacon grease, use real butter, and real mayonaise, and yes good old pure cane sugar in baking and other things. I do all that but I also eat lots of broiled fish, baked chicken, fresh veggies every day, and regular doses of treats made from fresh fruit. I still am maintaining a 30 waist at age 53.

My b/f , who is 33 joined my household weighing in at 230 pounds. He had been in the habit of daily fast food, and a kitchen filled with processed foods. Once he started eating better, (ie, home cooking with variety) he started to see the pounds fall off. Today after three years, and very little thought about it he is down to 175 pounds, and feels so much better.

Most of the people that I know are sensible enough to eat at least somewhat healthy foods. They make MacDonald's and other fast food a rare occasion thing, if at all, and try to eat a healthy variety. Those that I know who are obese are the ones who do just the opposite.

A varied and reasonably healthy diet , and a bit of exercise will go a long way toward being at a healthy weight, and avoiding all the debilitating conditions associated with obesity.

NBC News 2/2/12

Sugar excites the same brain happy areas as drugs.

Y'know I tell people day 2-5 of Atkins is like drug withdraw with aches, i don't feel wells, etc.

Now it is neurophysiologically supported.

Evolution programmed us to like sugars and fats and gorge on them when there was an opportunity because through most of human history, these sort of things were not available often so it was in out benefit to eat those things. Today, we have built a world to give us the foods we love in massive abundance and now it is killing us.

What happened? It got replaced with;

"It's not my fault!"

Blame my genes.

Blame my parents.

Just don't blame me.

Consider, when you are on Atkins, with ketones, a leaf of lettuce tastes sweet!

But not at times when I am eating bread or enough carbs to wipe out ketosis.

Consider "cave man" was probably in ketosis more often then not.

Today you gotta try to achieve ketosis.

Start with zero carbs. Water, water, water, more water. Eggs and meat only. Do not avoid salt!&!

Day 2-5 is achy, painy, I don't feel well, stick it out and you feel super, hi energy after.

Graze. Eat all the time. Not meals. PM interest.

Moi

Paleolithic Diet. But you can't get any good mastodon today.

Remember, berries and nuts were seasonal. Fish, meat were sustenance!

I agree with Moi's post above so much. Obesity is very hard for doctors to address nowadays; EVERYBODY responds to obesity complains with "Oh, but I hardly eat a thing!" or "But it's just my metabolism". Some people are indeed naturaly large but it aint as if the percentage of those people magically increased to 60% from 25% in the last 75 years.

I try to 'graze' my food all day, but enjoy a few solid huge meals per week. I'm feeling so much better since I changed my diet (small amounts of food regularly through the day, fish or beef or chicken daily, etc).

Mastodon may be not available but I did see elk and moose on the menu of my favorite restaurant in the city this past week.

Also, re. sugar being like a drug; that may be, but for God's sake, don't confuse spilled sugar with cocaine! It probably doesn't sting as badly as laundry detergent (thank Cheech and Chong for conducting THAT experiment for us) when snorted but I bet it isn't pleasant! :) :) :)

Before it was called the Paleolithic Diet.

I use to advise people to eat like 10,000BC.

Before Bread and grains.

Yes even rice and corn. And carb laden tubers too.

If you have to eat something neo, save it for a cookie.

Why waste it on pasta. Even browns pasta, when carbs can be budgeted to

📏 Chocolate.

Addicted to that blood sugar rush! Regulate Sugar today, Flour tomorrow.
