I'm back; My last few months

Post by StefanIsMe (imported) »

Hi guys!

Not that I think many would have noticed (I have zero ego!), but a couple of you may have noted my absense over the last little while.

First, sorry for not contacting folks. I dropped out of a few conversations and responsibilities here in the last few months. I apologize, folks.

I did kinda have a reason, though.

Specifically, I've had a twin set of problems keeping me from posting here; health and security. I got hit with migrains (not just headaches... proper vomit-inducing, rock-back-and-forth-in-the-corner-crying migrains) about 2-3 months ago; they came about 2-4 times per week, costing me work. This was extremely bad for me.

Secondly, security-wise, my computer puked, my new, hopped-up speed-machine. I need a computer to do ANYthing from home for work, so I mothballed my good computer and took a laptop from work. I've been using that to browse the 'net (and check the old story-archive here) once in a while, but those laptops are HIGHLY regulated and monitored for activity... so much so that I suspect keylogging and worst.

Therefore, I didn't use it to talk to, blog, or forum-post (or read) ANYwhere remotely 'iffy' (as far as my relationship with work is concerned).

I felt very uncomfortable using it to visit the forum here, so I didn't. Sorry for my silence, guys. Like I say, I did use it for checking the archive, because that seems so 'benign' and I could cover those tracks somewhat... but I didn't want to give them a reason to 'dig'

Those fucking migrains made me kind of go into hibernation from everything, including family.

ANYWAY... I'm rockin' again; depression situation gone, migrains gone (new attitude re. sleep schedule and diet made them go away), and my computer is FIXED! Most stunning is that I somehow fixed it myself, albeit with lots of help with one friend who got me a new power supply cheap, as well as a really good quality UPS/power-cleaner (a brownout fried my power supply and a connection on my motherboard).

So, y'all are stuck with me now, again :). I'm glad to be back, and hope to irritate you all with my silly postings during my holidays (I managed somehow to get a couple weeks off now).

I'm so glad to know you all !!

Welcome back. I am sorry to hear about your migraines. I get them myself sometimes. I feel your pain, literaly.

I can appreciate your abundance of caution with you employers computer. I have booted a few of them with Avira rescue and found spyware on some, but not all. Spyware is like AIDS; you can't be shure unless you test often.

I missed you and was about to write to you by snailmail to check on you. It's good to have you back and in better health. Migraines are nasty. Fortunately, mine are mild, though my son has them at the level you mentioned.

Welcome back. It was good to hear from you. Have to do the chat or the telephone again, and chat it up.

Thanks for the responses, gentlemen. Truly makes me feel all home-y. Don't know what I'd do without you all and this place to fall back on.
