This guy was tortured for 13 days by a gang, and they chopped off fingers and toes and apparently "crushed his testicles and burned his manhood". By the look of the fingers and toes, (there are pictures in the article) I suspect they probably went pretty far on the genitals too.

A DAD tortured in a Reservoir Dogs-style attack has split from his missus after struggling to cope following his sickening ordeal.
James Ross, 27, is being divorced by childhood sweetheart Donna — as pals blamed last night the extreme violence inflicted on him by a twisted gang for wrecking their ten-year marriage.
They said the former postal worker suffered mood swings and hit the bottle in despair over the trauma sparked by the attack.
He was left in agony after he was kidnapped for 13 days by gangsters in Portugal, who nailed him to a board, burned him with a cigarette lighter and hacked off an ear, two toes and a finger.
He only escaped when one of his tormentors who was ordered to guard him panicked and let him go.
Last night a source said the couple had moved out of the council house in Wick, Caithness, they shared with kids James, six, and Danielle, ten — and that Donna had a new fella, David Saunders, 22.
They added: "It is all very sad. No one will ever understand the horror James went through and continues to go through but it all became too much for both of them.
"It came to a head after months of arguing. James and Donna eventually split in April. He was having mood swings and drinking a lot and always seemed to be looking for an argument.
"However, he NEVER raised his hands once. James is not that type of person.
"No one can describe what they have gone through, especially James."
James was kidnapped after he was lured to the Algarve in October last year.
He was snatched at Faro airport, then held captive in a villa at the remote village of Boliqueime, near Albufeira.
It is claimed the gang crushed his testicles in a clamp, burned his manhood and left eye with a lighter, hacked off two toes, a finger and his right ear.
After ten days of torture, James was bundled into a Mercedes car.
But he cheated death when his captors crashed the motor.
Desperate Donna thought he was dead following a string of cruel calls from alleged gang leader Steven Johnston, 48.
But police bugged the line and nicked the gang — who are now facing trial in Lisbon next year — despite not knowing if James was still alive.
In fact, he had been freed after one of the thugs found out about the arrests and James staggered to a village before being rushed to hospital.
A year ago, James told The Scottish Sun how the thought of spending Christmas with Donna and kids James, six, and Danielle, ten, helped him pull through.
Hacked ... sick gang cut off his ring finger
But he added: "When I look in the mirror I think about what happened.
"When I look at my hands or feet I remember what happened. It will never go away."
Pals say the relationship started to fall apart just weeks after he was reunited with his family following three weeks under armed guard at Sao Jose Hospital in Lisbon, where he had plastic surgery.
James admitted suffering nightmares following his return.
The source said: "They had a wonderful Christmas but things soon escalated to the point it was unfair on the children who they love to bits. It simply got too much.
"The kids are lovely and you wouldn't know what they have been through by looking at them. They are so polite and happy.
"But the nightmare James went through has finished their marriage. It is another tragic twist to this whole sickening episode."
Sickening ... James also lost two toes in horror ordeal
They added: "Both are moving on. Donna has a new bloke and James has being seeing other people.
"But they know their name will forever be mentioned in the same breath because of what happened to James.
"The court case is also to come up which will be very painful.
"This whole story is a nightmare. It would be impossible for most young couples to get through what they have endured."
Last night James, who is understood to be staying with pals in Wick, was unavailable for comment.
But Donna said: "James and I have separated but it is nothing to do with anyone."

Well, it might appear that way, but there are things that we do not know from this article. Reading the article leaves me with more questions, important questions that are left unanswered by the writer.
Why was he kidnapped? For ransom? Not likely, he does not seem to be terribly wealthy. For a vendetta? He was kidnapped in Portugal, not likely that he pissed off someone so bad in Portugal while he was a postal worker in Scottland. So he was "lured to the Algarve.." What the hell is that? Is "the Algarve" a place in Portugal? A "red light district" or a gambling casino perhaps? Just how was he "lured" in to this place and kidnapped from the airport?
For me to even comprehend this sort of torture, 13 days, cutting of two toes, one finger, an ear and crushing his testicles in a clamp and burning his left eye and his "manhood" (I suppose that means his penis) with a lighter, for me to even contemplate doing something like that... What in the hell caused this "criminal gang" to want to do this? Did he owe money on a gambling debt? Torturing him like this would not get the money from him.
This article seems to be deliberately written with some glaring omissions. A little background on the "criminal gang" would be nice, their motive seems essential to the story. There are a lot of the basic "Five W's and an H" (Who, What, When, Where, Why and How) that have been left out. What the story does NOT say is telling me something, namely that they have bad writers and editors at The Scottish Sun.
As for Donna being a class A bitch, well here also we are left in the dark. James was "unavailable for comment" and Donna is only saying "it has nothing to do with anyone..." Hell, "unavailable for comment" can mean a lot of things - they telephoned his residence and he was not there, they asked him a question and he was too busy to talk at that moment.

The Algarve is the southern coastal region/province of Portugal, a popular "fun and sun" holiday destination for more northern Europeans. It's more or less equivalent to Andalusia, the southern part of Spain, which may be better known.
And I agree with you that there are a lot of strange omissions in the article.

I remember reading about it. It was mentioned it was for Ransom, but they got a poor guy.
