I still have everything, and while I generally hang out nude at home (in fact I'm nude as I type this), I can't go commando -- I get erections almost constantly and can't walk around in public without getting one. I definitely need underwear that supports and points things in a comfortable and discrete direction. Also without supportive underwear I find I crush my balls every time I sit down (not necessarily a bad thing, but not great when you're meeting a client and all you can think about is how you can get out of the room to adjust your balls.

I switched from Munsingwear to Hanes after my package shrank so much. No need for that large, empty pouch anymore. Still, you need something to absorb the urine that sometimes dribbles out if you're not careful when urinating.

i have had a penectomy and i sit down to pee but what does this have to do with wearing underwear?

I usually wear my jeans much longer than my underwear... If I wouldnt have underwear I would have to change them much more often. Underwear is not only there for "protection".

Yea, underwear is to keep your jeans clean. If you changed into clean underwear (boxers or briefs) daily, you could go a couple of weeks before washing your jeans (and that makes your jeans last a lot longer). If you go commando, then you would need to wash your jeans after a day or two (and many guys do that regardless). It really has to do with stuff coming out of your back door, and the build-up of the natural odors of your crotch sweat.

Yeah, I used to think this too, but that was in high school, before I really started noticing how much sweat, grime, and bathroom remnants often ended up on my underwear by the end of the day. In other words, no, you wouldn't technically need underwear, although nobody technically does anyway, but it would be kind of disgusting. If I were ever penectomized, I'd just keep wearing my Hanes hipster panties. Those things are so soft and comfy, even as a normal guy, that you don't even notice that you have them on anyway, so there wouldn't really be a legitimate incentive to quit wearing them, plus the disadvantage of uncleanness added in.
