Minnesota Vikins

Post by Riverwind (imported) »

Just in, Lawyers for the DOME say that the Vikings who's lease ends at the end of this season must play in the DOME again next year because last year they did not play all their games in the DOME. The roof of the dome collapsed. I think this is a stretch, the reason they could not play there is because of the roof.

Personally I would love them to move to LA, that way we would get all the Packers games.

So do you think the city who are the owners of the DOME have a case? 😄

I'd want to read the contract. If they say "seasons" or specify years, then I think the DOME is out of luck. If the contract says "X number of games" then they might have a legal argument.

Another thought is how does the contract deal with "loss of use" as a result of (perhaps) a fire or civil disturbance? OR any other reason?

A judge might look to the penalties set forth in the contract for a "breach" on both or either side for some idea of what might be fair to both sides.

Remember this is a suit in equity. The DOME can argue that it lost revenue through no fault of their own and that the Vikings owe them the games because the franchise made the same money during the season regardless of where they played games.

That might fly in court.

There might be an argument that the vendors and ushers lost pay and the Vikings owe them the games. I can't see that flying in court at all but that's never stopped a legal brief from being filed with a court.

I'm not a lawyer so none of this is legal advice. Remember, even a lead balloon can fly.

*sigh* all in an attempt to delay the Vikings from fleeing the state. Vikings have to place to play and the Jags have no fans in the stadium. One is likely to end up in LA and the other in San Antonio. I can't wait to see how this impacts realignment.

It was the Vikins, ;) or Vikings fault the dome collapsed. Makes sense to me. 🙄

💡The team should require vendors sell Lutefisk for Minnesota's team spirit. That just might get them out of the Dome. Or test the Dome's fresh air circulation.

Prefer Lingerie Football. Friday night. MTV2. Less dead time between plays. :)

They have been fighting for a new place to play for a dozen years, the problem is were in a recession, people are out of work and some billionaire thinks the best course of action is to raise the sales tax on the poor so he will have a new state of the art stadium to play in, He could do like Jerry Jones did and build on himself. OH but even better if you can get someone else to build it for you and then let you have the revenue from it.

My guess is the state will fold and give in to this owner, he will come out smelling like a rose.

Valid point, the Viks a fair weather team to play in a fair weather town to fair weather, surfs up.

Wait tell they find out that LA wont back a looser, You see it does not matter what kind of a season the Pack has, they have a full house and its that way in lots of places around the country, but LA, three loosing seasons and they wont sell half there seats. After all how can the Viks compare with the RAIDERS. LA's other team. The Rams left for a reason, so did the Raiders.

Of course it all depends on what the contract says. The owners of the Dome may have legal ground here if the contract excludes "acts of god" from non-perfomance of the contract. If the dome owners are entitled to a certain number of games and the reason the games were not played there was not the fault of the dome owners, they may be entitled to have the lost number of games played there. On the other hand, I could see it being claimed that it was negligence of the owners that caused the collapse of the dome, by not replacing it earlier and not keeping up on the maintainance. I'm sure it's all in the fine print somewhere.

Now having said that, I really want them to move to LA. The lakers are already here and we already are used to the colors being gold and purple. And the expectations will be so high, whoever is in control will be under huge pressure to win. I think it's a good fit. It will make the team a powerhouse and become one of the most profitable teams in the league. And LA has no problem adopting teams and treating them as our own.

Being born and raised in LA I would agree with you, its a perfect fit, until they have a few loosing seasons in a row. Tell me does LA have or have they ever had a home grown team that they have supported ? Professional teams I am talking about, LA home of instant gratification, freeways, and people from somewhere else, that when the team starts to fail they will go back to where their home team is and support them. LA has always been a fair weather town, even the Angles moved.

Lets see,

Rams, from Cleavland now in St Louis LA did not support them.

Lakers from the twin cities,

Dodgers from Brooklyn

Angles home grown moved out.

LA King the one and only home grown team that is still in LA

Raiders, came and left.

I know there is another basketball team in LA but nobody remembers them or supports them it seams.

Vikings ? just another team from somewhere else,

What about an expansion team, one you build from scratch? NO That takes to much time, back to instant gratification.

Lets face it, there is to much going on in LA, the weather is great, you have sports of all sorts 24/7 so there is no time to support a looser, LA did not support the Rams, or Raiders when they were not winning, what makes you think they would support another team that was not in the hunt for the super bowl every single year. How long do you think the LA fans would support any team that had several sub 500 seasons before they dumped them like they did the Rams and Raiders and Angles? Do you think the fans in LA would have supported the Dodgers all these years if they just won for the first time a world series sense leaving NY like the Giants did last year? NOT A CHANCE.

Has LA finally learned the lessons of the past and realize the coliseum is not a football stadium?

BTW, as a kid I went to a game between SF and LA it was so full we sat in the end zone by the opening that lead into the stadium, I looked it up, biggest crowd in the history of football, It was not bad we were only about a half mile from the field of play, better then those seats at row 102 where you get nose bleeds and the pidgins fly below you as even they don't fly that high.

So is California which is broke and LA which is broke going to spend a billion on a new stadium. A place USC can play? Even UCLA moved to the Rose Bowl.

Is the sky still a yellow green? Yes I left there years ago never to return thank god.
