What To Do About, Trolls

Post by moi621 (imported) »

Recently, threads have become polluted with Trolls and discussions about them.

Consider, if we let them "change" the ways of this Board - They score a win!

It is hoped Troll suspects might be given one warning by PM & E-Mail and out the second instance.

The PM might be formatted into the usual rules, no chxxdxen even in fantasy and no personal attacks.

Don't advertise, we will see the Banned note by their name. They are not worth the space. Except on this thread. 🙄

Moi

chxxdxen - the spelling was chosen to throw off the cyber police.

Their programs monitor us. They watch and wait and . . . . .

My husband and I moderate a forum

We just delete offending posts rather than ban anyone

It is very easy to do and I never offend anyone.

I assume a post can be deleted by a moderator.

I run a forum, and I'll ban anyone that is rude, spams, or attacks another member. I have no problem with offending an offensive member.

...around here it would keep you busy ALL of the time. No, the way we have is the way that works for us. Thanks, though... 🙏

To answer your question, yes we can delete posts and we do, we can also edit posts and we do. As for you third question about how to contact a ban member please contact me in private, but as far as I know the two people I ban were both guys, one retirement age, not promising anything.

Do you mind me asking what the forum is. You can send a message if you don't want a public post.

As a moderator myself I wouldn't modify the posts of another person except to perhaps correct spelling errors or something similar, since I believe a persons own words should stand on their own. However, this isn't my forum, so the mods here can do as they wish.

The easiest way to deal with a troll is to simply not feed them. They are kind of like stray dogs this way... if you feed them they tend to stick around.

Do you still retain the information in the profiles that might provide an e-mail address?

I would think that if they are, indeed trolls, the information would all be BOGUS...
