Depo Provera absorption time relative to dose

Post by innocent_in_574 (imported) »

I have a question about how Depo Provera is absorbed by you body. I know it's designed to be a three month dose for women and in men is is generally used weekey to monthly. My question is wether the time the injection is effective in the body is due to how long it takes the liver to absorb the drug, or how long the injection takes to realease itself into the body. I hope that makes sense.

Maybe an example would help:

1. I take one 150mg injection of DP once. For the sake of arguement i'll say that it takes 90 days for that injection to be out of my system.

2. I take 300mg or 600mg of DP once. Will this dose take the same amount of time as 150 mg to be out completely of my system or will it last two to four times longer?

Is the long life of the injection because of a time-release mechanism in Deop Provera itself or is based on how fast your liver can absorb it? I am not asking about T levels returning to normal, just how long DP stays in the system relative to dosage.

I hope my post makes sense, I just want to have as much knowledge about how DP works before I start taking it.

Thanks
