Louis David Riel was a freedom loving man who died fighting for freedom.

Hanged by the Canadian government on November 16, 1885. Much of what he fought for eventually came to pass.

I first learned of Louis as a kid in a couple of TV series westerns where his character appeared working as a school teacher if I remember correctly.
