Story Suggestions - "Edit Me Next!"

Post by Paolo »

If there is a story that you recall, and you CAN REMEMBER THE TITLE, post that here. Begging and pleading and bribes are also helpful.

This is a suggestion for stories that you cannot live without.:D

I would also like to start an "Archive Classics" thread later on, when we're done.

If you use the Wayback Machine, post a link if you found it and I will make an effort to dig it out. First come, first served.🆘

Just as an afterthought, we've found some real gems from way back in the 90's. Some that were forgotten, some that are "new" treasures.

A real Gem I discovered and finished editing last night was Worm-Hole by Ganymede. Before I edited it, it was almost unreadable. I would never have given it a second look. It was all compressed columns, grey and blue background, no paragraph break,. no tags, no description. UGLY, ugly... ugg.

Once I finished editing it I discovered it was a very well written piece of Hard Science Fiction. Just remarkable. I doubt many people would have read it the way it was. Now, It is one of my favorite stories. Extraordinarily well written and really makes you work for the science. I'd expect to read this story in a Sci-Fi magazine, if it didn't have the EA seal of approval all over it.

When it shows up on the story site be sure to check it out.

Anything by Zoroaster, he wrote some darn good stuff. I also liked the Jack series (Jacks first castration, Jacks big job), the "interview with a" series (though those tended to be rewrites of others, but I liked the format). There are others, but I'll leave my suggestion at this for now.

I've started editing some stories by Nathan. His stories were always popular. I've done a couple, but there's a bunch of them. I would also like to see some of Androboy's stories edited, but I don't remember the names of them.

Androboy's (David) stories that come to mind are:

"The Tribes"

"The Doll Maker" (I think it was that; not Toymaker)

and "The Prince Trains a Slave"

Those are the three that stick in my mind.

If several people have already edited the stories, wouldn't it make it faster if their work were included in the new process? Even if it was accepted as only a "first pass", it might make things go faster for whoever does the final job.

Are there standards for what "edited" looks like in this context?

I've got several of the stories edited to HTML standards, and could upload them somewhere if that would be helpful.

What exactly is the reason the stories have disappeared?

It would not help. They have to be edited to conform to the new story software or they end up with character sets instead of quotes, asterisks, and other symbols. Other editing, including spacing and tags, is needed. Unfortunately, it has to be done story by story in the new editor to make them compatible with the new software. At this rate, we figure it will take about a year to get it done, an Archive Project Gutenberg more or less.

Friend's Don't Let Friend's Wear Penises is one of my favorites, and I have to also suggest The Fucking Tables of the Past, as they initially drew me into the Archive many years ago.
