Bodkin's arrest was first reported by The Wetumpka Herald newspaper.

WETUMPKA, Ala.— An Elmore County man has been arrested on child pornography charges and authorities said Monday that they confiscated from his home pornographic materials, along with devices used to perform castrations and photographs depicting human castration.

Officials with the Elmore County Sheriff's Department said 68-year-old Edward Bodkin of the Slapout community was arrested Friday and charged with four counts of possession of child pornography. He was being held Monday on $400,000 bond.

Elmore County chief deputy Ricky Lowery said the materials were found in Bodkin's house after a search warrant was obtained. He said officials didn't know what Bodkin planned to do with the castration devices.

Bodkin served a jail sentence in Indiana in the late 1990s on charges of practicing medicine without a license. At that time, he admitted in court to castrating several men and said he performed the operations because the men wanted to curb their sexual desires.

It wasn't known late Monday whether Bodkin has an attorney in the case.

Lowery said Elmore County officers learned about Bodkin after being contacted by an official with the Massachusetts Treatment Center for Sexually Dangerous Persons, who said that an inmate had received sexually explicit mail from Bodkin.

Officials said the pornographic materials were found all over Bodkin's home in the Slapout community near Lake Jordan, about 30 miles north of Montgomery.

Bodkin could also face federal child pornography charges. Clayton Slay, resident agent in charge of the Montgomery office of the U.S. Secret Service, said federal agents were assisting Elmore County deputies with the investigation.

For those that don't know, Bodkin was busted for "performing medicine without a license" when he was doing castrations in his apartment.

Yet another reason why we do NOT endorse 'cutters' at EA. Something like this only serves to give this community a bad name.

I don't think anyone was saying anything about it. It is just news of interest because he was known here.

But now that you brought it up, the sexual taste can be relevant -- if cutting is a fetish then the cutter may over-state their skill in order to get a chance to satisfy their desire. A person that only is motivated by a desire to help wouldn't do that.

One thing leads to another, etc., and in the eyes of Joe Newsreader, everyone who is associated with voluntary castration must be a pedophile with (following the logic or lack thereof) a thing for castrating little boys. NOT something of an image that we want to be associated with.

First he was not a skilled cutter. Not the worst but not as experienced and as talented as he claimed. When you are desperate to be a eunuch it is easy to believe what you hear. The reason for the videotaping the castrations was to edit and sell them to others for his profit. He was always looking for profit. I almost wonder if he was not distributing as another source of profit? What was interesting about him is once he had what he wanted, a pair of nuts and a video, the real Ed came out. I think this all speaks to his character as a person and a cutter. If you had problems afterward such as more drainage than expected he wanted to blame his patient and had no real advice or concern. I would not trust the caharacter of someone involved in kiddie porn to give me care. I certainly would not want to be affiliated in anyway. Had I known about that years ago I would have gone a different route. Knowing that children are being sexually abused for others pleasure is incredibly sick.

One of the differences is that your dentist has a regulatory body to report to and people overseeing his professionalism and competence. Not so much with the cutter, which is why his fetishes and interests are more important. Not to mention the already-discussed fact that if your dentist is caught with kiddie porn, people don't immediately tarnish the entire dental community. When a cutter gets caught, Joe Average tends to lump him in with the rest of the 'freaks' who want their junk removed voluntarily.

I know nothing of this particular case and person, but I always take early accusations of child porn w/ a bit of skepticism. Often such accusations are added to any sexual offense, and the definition of child porn is so broad that almost any pictures of children can fit the definition. People have been charged w/ child porn for normal baby pictures. Legally almost any Vogue or other fashion magazine meets the definition (Under aged models dressed and posed provocatively.) The EA itself was apparently accused of child porn for its fiction archive. Till more info about what was actually on his computers comes along, I will withhold judgment.

It seems as though I am ALWAYS defending the indefensable, tending the untenable, and other hopeless lost causes, but here I go again.

I do not know thing one about the person accused in this matter, and I do not have any idea of what sort or quantity of "kiddie porn" may have been found in his house, but when I thought about it, I actually did come up with at least ONE plausable "good" reason for him to have at least a little bit of it... OK, here goes my reasoning on this matter:

IF he is a "cutter," and he makes his living doing this thing, then he probably wants clients, people who will pay him to do this. I imagine that many men, when it comes down to the wire, have a lot of second thoughts, doubts, and apprehension, after all, once it is done it is DONE, no going back. IF I were in that situation, ready to be castrated and having some last minute doubts, I might need to be reminded of one of the best reasons to be castrated, i.e. no more sexual obsession. SOME men, when they look at a child in a sexual way, are aroused (OMG!! If I EVER got aroused thinking about a kid I think I would cut my own junk off with a rusty knife that very second!), so, if the cutter handed them a book of kiddie porn and they were reminded of their pediphilia, I think that would serve to push very strongly to get rid of that mental affliction as soon as possible and go ahead with the castration.... I HOPE, however hopeless this reasoning may seem, that he was keeping the trash around for some sort of "good" reason, and not for his own or any other pediphile's enjoyment.
