Beyond the Binary

Intersexion (Is He Or Isn't She?) is a television documentary that was broadcast in New Zealand earlier this month. It’s been posted on Youtube in 5 sections of about 9 to 10 minutes each (the documentary is a TV hour, minus the commercials).

Hosted by Mani Bruce Mitchell, it is an outstanding look at intersex and others who fall outside the binary pigeonholes of male/female. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Very good documentary. I really associated with the fellow who has the Youtube videos and talked about his small genitalia. He certainly doesn't have a small personality.

I'm not quite like the people in the video. My issues didn't come from a birth defect, but a disease. Still, it's good to know I'm not a lone traveler with my issues. I feel much the same way as most of the people in the video. I don't need to change. I don't think I want to start hormones and become something I'm not. I'm pretty happy with how I am.

My only concerns are with bone issues down the road. That, and I'd like to avoid the mood swings I've always had. I'm told I can go on "maintenance levels of testosterone without too many drastic changes. That sounds good to me.

Too bad there hasn't been a good documentary dealing with the eunuch phenomenon. I expect there are a lot more of us in this world than even this community knows. I'm aware of a pretty bad documentary that came out in 2004 or so. Instead, I'd like to see something like this inter-sex documentary. Something that sees us as people first, and gender identity second. There are some awesome people in this community. It's a shame the world doesn't know it.
