Don't rush it.

Talula hasn't even written a new story submissions script yet.

Excuse me, don't know where to ask: How can I enter the fiction archive? The forum password doesn't work and there is no explanation. Or at least I can't find one.

So if anyone could expalin, I'd be very happy.

edit: It didn't work, when I went via http://www.eunuch.org/main/, but by reading a bit more here and copying and pasting "http://eunuchworld.org/s_index.php" it worked.

edit2: and thank you for bringing the stories back. ;)

As if this hasn't been discussed already...

Well, two months have gone by and still, no answer to if "new" will be a search category. Since it's still not answered, I assume the Archive has abandoned that concept for some reason and no new stories have or will be posted. Thanks for ignoring me and not answering the question.

Sometimes my life gets uncommonly busy, and things I intended to do are delayed because something happened of sufficient importance that I have found it wise to revise my intentions.

Yes, some folks seem to get impatient when I find it unwise to do what they, who do not have to work through the problems that I need to resolve, deem me to not be doing what I "should" be doing for their pleasure or whatever.

Dr. Abraham A. Low, a psychiatrist, spoke of this expectation problem, saying
janekane (imported) wrote: Tue Jul 12, 2011 6:08 am , "If my patients had patience, I would not have patients.

I am a very strong advocate for being patient with those who are working away, to the limit of their practicable ability to restore the Archive and its capacity for having new stories added, after those actually doing the work have had proper opportunity to decently complete the Archive restoration work.

In contrast with many people who read, and fewer who post comments and replies, I took the trouble to get to the 2011 MoM and met the core folks who run the Archive. I found them all to be very decent people who care about the Archive and its stories, past and future.

The work needed for the restoration of the Archive, and the restoring of new story additions, is a formidable task, and, in my view, being impatient with the archive administrators is unwise, unkind, and also plausibly tragic.

I can assure anyone who feels otherwise that the fact of the matter is simply that the archive administrators are making a diligent, conscientious effort to get the Archive fully functional as soon as is practicable.

I am writing an posting this in the hope that people will read it and recognize the folly of criticizing the Archive administrators.

made friends at the MoM. Please do not hurt my friends."

I meant it then and I mean it no less now; please do not mean to be mean to my friends. (Punning intentional as an attentional effort on my part.)

I have very little to contribute to the discussion at this point, except to say a very big thank you to all the moderators, administrators, coders and anyone else involved in the restoration of the story archive.

You hard work and efforts are much appreciated.

Look. We have to go through well over 10,000 stories by hand to restore the archive. New script has to be written, that has never existed before to handle the new format. In a two week period we were able to get through a little over 1200 stories. We are working as fast as we freaking can.

We do want new stories on the archive, but the focus has been restoring the old ones, and writing software to handle everything else. If you are that impatient for their return, how about YOU do something to contribute????

I started this thread when the very idea of dumping the fiction archive came up. I was very vocal about their return. When it came time for the rubber to meet the road, most of the people who were demanding the stories to return, disappeared. I've been here editing stories like a cloistered monk. I decided if I wanted something badly enough, it was worth my putting something of myself into the process. I couldn't just demand something without being willing to contribute. What are you willing to put in???

Do you think anyone is getting paid to pander to your demands? Everyone here is volunteers. Look around this site. Do you see and advertisements? Do you think it is our job to lick your boots and do what you want?

People have other jobs to work. The EA and the Fiction Archive are labors of love for those of us working on it. Nobody is getting a paycheck. You are not a customer. You are a participant in a community, not a client.

If you are really upset that it is taking too long to get what you want, then you tell me... what can you contribute to the process? I'm already editing stories in almost all of my free time. Do you think I don't have a story to contribute? Do you think I don't want to share my story too. Well my little story has turned into a bloody novel, and it is still growing. When the submissions return I'll be first in line to contribute, but we have to work a lot of things out before that can happen.

Let me say this plainly for all who read this...

WE DO NOT KNOW WHEN STORY SUBMISSIONS WILL RETURN.

WE ARE WORKING ON IT.

YOU'LL KNOW WHEN WE KNOW.

Until that time, how about you consider contributing to the cause. How about you just donate to the forums so we can keep our hosting site paid and happy.

Woot Woot you tell him Cainanite put up or shut up I like it but it may be lost as the guy is gone and as I understand it you must be a registered member to read the stories so for that rude individule he will never read another. Some days are better then others this is a good day.

If I have not said it in a while, you guys doing all the work getting the stories back up are fantastic, it is much further along than I would have figured at this point in time.

WELL DONE
