I'd recommend a new download of Opera and a removal of the old one before reinstalling.
Then again, I am a fan of Firefox.

Well, Opera works fine with XP Pro at the "mother ship" computer, so who knows?

Re: Reining in the Controversy.
I'm just going to put this here, since my first idea - trying to PM Kristoff as it said on the message board's opening page - didn't work, maybe because I'm new and was doing it wrong.
I'm a long time reader of the Fiction Archive, but never wrote a story nor did I ever register here, I just enjoyed the variety of different stories it offered. Since my native language is German, I was glad there were a lot of German stories, too and frankly, I mostly looked around there, since it meant the least effort. Now that everything is being rebuilt, I'm anxious that it will take longest for my favorites to reappear and would like to help with that, if you let me.
Since I'm not sure who is mainly responsible or who has access to the stories at this point, maybe this is even the best way to offer my help. What I could do are two things... since I never made hear of myself and you have no reason to trust my every word, I could take it slowly and translate one story after another from German to English. This way would be easiest for you, because it would be hard to manipulate meaning into or out of the stories (for whatever reason I might want to do that, since I think most of them are fine as they are).
The second option would be to read through all of the German stories and write summaries of their content that also point to critical points in the story (like pedophile or especially violent moments that aren't mentioned in the original synopsis that precedes most stories). This would be easier for me and make everything quicker, but you'd have less control. If you wonder how I got the time for each of these projects, I'm studying and still have about a month of holidays before the next term starts. So instead of just hanging around I could spend my time doing something useful for the community (this community at least).
Is there any possibilty I could be trusted with either of these? I'm really missing my favorites and would love them to be back up as soon as possible.
(In fact I'm wondering that there aren't more people who miss them and could offer their help.)
And this doesn't mean I don't believe in the team here to handle this situation alone, I just think it could be easier if someone more familiar with languages other than English could help a little.

Re: Reining in the Controversy.
I see the fictional archive is back. That's Great! I know you have to start somewhere but it's difficult to find my favorite type of stories or to keep up on new ones while the archive is only alphbetical by story title. I hope someone is planning on allowing the stories to be searched by New, Author, Activity like ball busting-nulification-castration-etc. The old archive listed new stories or allowed you to set up to monitor for them. That was very valuable to me. I had read the entire archive once I discovered it and liked keeping up. You can't do that now. I am an author and my story hasn't reappeared yet but I assume it will, eventually. Thanks for making the effort to restore the archive of fictional stories. Looking forward to the final format and new search capabilies.

It'll get there, give it time.
As if this hasn't been discussed already...

Re: Reining in the Controversy.
Discussed a million times in a few hundred different threads that don't seem to get read.

Re: Reining in the Controversy.
Just a quick question... when you say that ALL of the stories will eventually be brought back, I was wondering how far back you have to go before the archive you're copying them from starts? Because I posted my very first story less than a day before the big site crash, so I was wondering if it will be included or not since it probably didn't have much of a chance to be archived.
Anyway, whether my story will be included or not, I am extremely grateful that you all are taking the time to do this at all... thank you very much for the work you are putting into it.
