Ah, "The City"!

"The City" translates as, San Francisco for those who do not know.

Never, ever - 'frisco' <the horror> <the horror>

My time in "The City" was a family vacation when I was a kid, circa 1960 and some visits between 1966-1969, the college years. I lived there from 1970-1974 in the fog zone.

I never really liked living in any city but the experiences last.

And "The City" was special

Yes. I lived in San Jose, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, and Los Altos from 1961 until 1966 and went there often. I've been back since but not since they tore down the Embarcadero freeway, that hideous monstrosity. Earthquakes aren't all bad, I suppose.

Whenever anyone in Northern California says, "The City," there is no doubt about which city they mean, and NO ONE ever calls it "Frisco."

I got to see Willie Mays and the rest of that Giants team play at Candlestick Park many times.

There are a lot of great cities but San Francisco is a jewel among the great cities of the world. I love it here in the mid west, and there is not many things I miss from the coast, the city is one of them. I remember going from the Embarcadero where I worked about 4 blocks from fisherman's wharf and get the catch of the day to take home for dinner, I have not had a good fish dinner in years.

True, Never ever never call The City "Frisco" that is the worst insult you can give.

LOL yes it is very much part of the country, it was even when Emperor Norton was alive, he was a great side show though, its still a city with a lot of side shows depending which part of town your in.

I love that city.

My sister used to live in SF and raved about the hills and the architecture. When she had her first child, my mother came up to help out, looked around and commented "Pittsburgh by the sea."

I was very, very impressed when I saw Pittsburgh circa 1980, expecting someplace that would look grimy like Camden and Philly. The hills and buildings were very similar to "the City". Surprisingly charming.

A benefit of living in a walking city on hills is the ladies have great looking legs.

It's the hills and the closeness of downtown thanks (in Pittsburgh's case) to the rivers. Building on a hillside makes for narrow, together houses and neighborhoods.

Where I live, "The City" refers to.....well, never mind.

On the other hand, the many sailboats and yachts plying Lake Michigan's blue-green waters remind me of one of the many visual pleasures San Francisco offers.

I have been to San Francisco more times than I can remember. The physical surroundings are outstanding. I love the climate (and I have been there at all times of the year). I first saw the Pacific Ocean many years ago as I drove over a hill top just south of the city.

If I could afford to live there, I would do so glady.

I've also been to Pittsburgh many more times than I can remember. It has a lot to offer, too. I'm just not thrilled about driving some exceptionally steep streets in the winter.
