Can you imagine the hullabaloo that would break out were a major earthquake or volcano eruption to occur by chance tomorrow.

Are you sure there is a difference?

Who came up with the 2%? I used to be 144,000. And the 7th day adventists have half of those reserved.

If so few go away we heathens may not even notice.

And we'll clearly still have all our elected officials, and the government employees. Maybe Hell is already here and we just haven't thought about it.

Doonesbury

http://www.doonesbury.com/strip

strip of May 20.

Zonker is questioning and quoting, as I here,

Zonker, " Matthew 24:36, 'of that day and hour knows no man , no not the angels of heaven, but my father only."

Point: If one believes in the Rapture, then one must also believe its' date cannot be foretold.

Of course we can all pick, peck and choose as constructs our own pablumized truths.

<sigh> :-| I hate the 21st Century. No morality beyond ME! :(

Looking forward to being spontaneously combustibly saved by the Rapture.

One way or the other, it is better then the 21st Century today.

Revelation 14:4 is pretty explicit about who those 144,000 are to be. "These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins." [KJV]

This leaves out most of the Jehovah's Witnesses who have shown up on my doorstep. (I usually have them running screaming out the driveway when I start quoting Scripture at them....)

The Skoptsy are not the only Christian sect in history who have interpreted the Bible to indicate that the 144,000 will consist mostly of devout Christian eunuchs who were castrated before puberty. All others need not apply!

I have considered gathering a batch of used shoes and clothing and placing it all appropriately in front of my neighborhood Evangelical Christian church at about midnight on Saturday. It would be great fun to watch the reaction of the "true believers" who would think that they were among those left behind....

You can see a variation on that theme at

Now, 11PM PDT: just 19 hours left until Rapture. Don't get left behind. You don't want to have to spend the next five months here. Dead bodies will be everywhere; and the Living Dead will be walking about. Thank God many of the recent dead have been cremated. Will we have piles of ashes lying around and animated clouds of ashes - those of the saved - swirling about?

Damn! I'll be at work when the world ends, but again, if it does end, I'll get off a couple of hours early. See...if you look hard enough, you can find good in anything, even in the end of the world.

It's 2:56 AM in New Jersey! Where the $&#(^ is my earthquake!?

Am I too early? Is it scheduled for 6 PM PDT?

I feel sad for the believers, and I think I understand them. They long for transcendence, for life to be more than what we see and feel. They long to be free of the burdens of living. Too bad. I've never understood why the thought that we're animated lumps who eventually disintegrate bothers so many people. That seems much better than the prospect of eternal damnation. The hope of salvation enslaves too many people and turns them into cruel censorious hypocrites. Better to be free of the fear and also the hope.

All an excuse

not to hear one's Angels and deny one's Demons.

I'll have you know I came to this thread hoping to see somebody talking about Blondie.

I may be gay, but Debrah Harry turned me on back then.
