It can also happen if you are in the address book of someone whose computer gets hacked.

Happened to a friend of mine a couple of years ago and I still get occasional emails from myself offering Viagra.

I do not keep an address book on my PC for that reason.

If your were a user of the Unix News feeds, you email address is not hidden and the spammers got my email that way. I still get anywhere between 70-200 spams a day, luckily 99% of them end up in the spam bind and note 99% are from over seas.
