Due to popular demand the Personals and Classified sections are down. hehehe

No, actually despite the fact that I tested the software quite a bit before I posted it, there seems to be a bug regarding the passwords so rather than to frustrate users I have taken them off line while I fix.

I promise to spend all day doing so.

There has been a request to bring the old personals back on-line so folks may write down emails an such. I will do so. Might not be right away, but it will happen.

Folks, thanks for your patience on this. These things are not suppose to happen but they do.

I'll post again when things are on-line.

Talula,

You should know: 'The software isn't working - they must have upgraded it again'.

Doesn't matter how much you test something, give it to an ignorant user and they will break it in seconds. I've been designing and programming software for over 30 years now and I still can't get it right. Mind you, I still have a job - there might just be a reason for that.

LOL

Talula,

Me too, a programmer for over 30 years and its true, no matter how much you test, users will find new and better ways to break it. LOL

It goes with the job.

...I suppose I can trot out an old joke:

"If architects built buildings the way programmers create software, the first woodpecker to come along would destroy civilization."

Heheh. Ok Andrew. I'll take that in the spirit intended hehe.

Anyhow. As promised I spent all day redoing the new personals and I feel rather confident with them and thier stability so I have brought them online. The classifieds will come up later.

Let me know if there are any problems.

Please note, the username and password are the ones used on the bulletin board. If you have an account with the bulletin board, you have an account with the personals.

Some of the people that posted on the personals didn't have an account on the board, so I was forced to delete those postings.

Hope everyone finds these useful, especially since you can upload a photo of yourself.

Not that this is going to do a bloody bit of good.

There's a minimum of a dozen emails every day saying "I cannot log in". Without fail ... I look up the user and sure enough ... I can log in as them with no problems at all!

Interestingly enough, a good 90% of these unfortunates are AOL users. I am beginning to think that VBulletin software and AOL's sick joke of a browser don't get along well at all. That or the intelligence level of the AOL crowd is pretty damn low, I don't know.

Are there any statistics out there on this? I just find it strange is all, not to be insulting, although I probably am.

That and the issue of case sensitivity. Personally, I feel that this is something that SHOULD BE a thing of the past, but oh well ... no programmer in his/her/its right mind would differentiate between an upper case "F" and "f". Back in college, I was given a failing grade on a final because my program was case sensitive on data string entries. The professor flunked me, but good.

Keep in mind that if your username is "Fred" then log in with "Fred", since "fred" and "FRED" are not the same things. Absurd, but true.

AND IN CLOSING >>> if you didn't list a VALID email address when you made your very first login entry when you signed onto this pleasure cruise, there's not much I can do for you as far as helping you to log in. Other than assign you a new password, but then how does THAT get to you? It helps, when you email for help from us, to have a VALID 'reply-to' address that WE CAN REPLY TO! Jesus Christ, people, it's not brain surgery. All you have to do is remember your name and one little word.

And if you tried to create a new account with the SAME email, valid or not, God help you ... the software, which Talula DID NOT write, does not like that. Not one bit.

Colin,

It doesn't take ignorant user to break the software. I found a problem with the user logon portion of the software.

Riverwind,

I agree no matter how hard I try to make a system bulletproof someone always fined a way to break something. Although it is usually some undocumented feature in Micro$haft's products.

Andrew,

I would use the modified phrase.

I have a few other ones to mention when it comes to Microsoft.

Talula,

Keep up the good work. :) I still haven't had a chance to try out the personals since you made the changes, but will after posting this. I'll see if I can locate any more bugs :p Lets hope I don't. ;)

Paolo,

The statement about AOL would be about 75% browser related and 25% user related. I know for a Fact that people using AOL could not access the Web-based e-mail system at work, would not allow them to login correctly. I also know that I have come across a number of AOL users that have no clue on how to use a computer correctly. As my boss would say they need to be spoon feed and shown how to do everything. (Sorry if anyone takes offence to what I just said)

Case sensitivity has it's place, but not when it comes to UserNames. I think the only real place it is useful and needed is with Passwords. I don't like operating systems (OS) that have case sensitive file systems.

Antonia,

This post is to show you that I CAN post a single reply to multiple users instead of posting 5 separate Posts. :tongueout

Ok you deleted my Ad again :( Luckily I was smart and kept a copy :) Was able to log in no problem and place another ad.

Looks great Talula. The only suggestion I have is that the title bar gets changed to "Eunuch Archive Personals" instead of the current "Eunuch Archive Classifieds". I'll let you know if I can think of anything else to make it better.
