spectacular weather experiences

such as the day after a snow storm or during,

Viola, the new guilt free thread to share spectacular weather experiences.

Such as the sight of a near 180 degree double rainbow.

In the category of Prettiest After Storm Appearance, i love a good ice storm / freezing rain. The crystalline appearance of it all in the sun that always seems to soon follow these events.

In the category or Storm Experience, being well bundled and comfy in the storm, I love being by the ocean at the water's edge. Wind, waves, rain, clouds, and maybe thunder and lightening. The elements at their best and my senses experiencing such a mixed of salad offered by the Deity of weather.

Before retiring, being snowed in made for great stress in my life. How could I get out to visit customers and such? Now it just means making another pot of coffee and tossing another log on the fire.

But in the back of my mind is concern for all those who must stand and deliver in order to feed the kids and pay the rent. I understand the pain of being neutralized by weather while my competitors are not. Been there; done that.

I love travelling back east, whether to the MOM or to visit friends who live in MO, and anyone who knows me can probably tell you one of the reasons.

I love sitting and watching the thunderstorms they have. Ones that last for hours, with massive blasts of lightning, and huge peals of thunder. It's a far cry from what we get here, where a 'thunderstorm' typically lasts all of 5-10 minutes, and might include two noticable flashes, and the occiasional low rumbling off in the distance somewhere.

As one who lived in St Louis, Thunderstorms in the summer can be spectacular.

I agree that the midwest summer thunderstorms can be spectacular, but . . .

The calm is broken with the rush of air carrying the scent of rain and sage as a squall line approaches.

The sound of snow falling on an absolutely still day in the forest.

The sunsets in the mountains of Arizona when the summer thunderstorms (monsoon season) are superimposed on a Carribean blue sky. The view makes you want to applaud.

I used to hang glide. There was this big block of a mountain that faced northwest. This one day looked like northwest winds, so we headed there. The access is up the backside, so you never see what you're getting until most of the way up the road zigs up to a notch before continuing up the backside. We came out on the notch and stopped. The wind was howling. We were just below the ragged and scary base of the clouds forming from the air pushed up the mountain. Right over our head was a raven. It was just hanging there in the blast of air with his wings tucked in and his legs extended. A perfect balance of lift and drag in the forces that we wouldn't even think about going into. He began cawing when we piled out of the truck. It really was eerie, like 'Ghost Riders in Sky."

I so agree with you, Vaughn Monroe's version was the first I remember, and ever since, anyone else's version, even the great Marty Robbin's version, just sounds like cheap imitation.
