Personally, I remain unconvinced that a low dose of T will help ward off osteoporosis, as most of the studies regarding men and osteo involve men with low testosterone levels. Sure, low is probably better than none, but on it's own or even with calcium, you may still be at risk.

Well, without any baseline data I guess the best we can do is keep the T low enough to avoid any remnants of sexuality, take calcium with vit D and get a bone scan annually. At least there are medications on the market that can help reduce bone loss, perhaps even improve bone density. To a certain extent, by monitoring the data the damage might be minimal.

Once the T is gone guys just have to deal with it, as women have to deal with it. It is a trade off I am willing to endure.

Coming more from the tranny angle I've not worried too much about osteoporosis. That general consensus is that HRT staves it off. But I'm definitely at the lower dose end of the post op maintenance dose scale, hence my concern.

I forgot to take it for several weeks once. Eventually it affects my moods but that takes quite a while to happen to me. I take it most days at the moment...Guess I have my shit more together more now? On a more tangential note I took micronised progesterone for a while, the intention to put a little more lead in my pencil, so to speak. Just turned me into a sadistic psycho hose beast. These days I keep it nice and simple. To be honest I'm surprised more eunuchs don't opt for low dose estrogen. T can be such vicious stuff..

The proper test for osteoporosis or osteopina is a bone density test. This should not be confused with a bone scan which is an entirely different test. While they sound like they are the same, they aren't.

A bone density test is a very simple, low-power X-ray of limited areas while a bone scan is more complex and involves radioactive tracer elements.

Not to pick on anyone here, I just remember the look my urologist had when I inquired about having a bone scan done soon after my castration. My second one is scheduled for Monday so am curious to see how things have changed.
