"WHO DAT"

WITH THE LARGEST PENISES IN AMERICA?

NEW ORLEANS, D.C. & NEW HAMPSHIRE TOP THE CHARTS FOR PENIS SIZE

LOS ANGELES, March 3rd, 2010 - New Orleans now has another reason to call itself "The Big Easy." The home of this year's Super Bowl champs has taken the top spot in Condomania's ranking of U.S. cities by penis size!

And the men of Washington D.C. apparently are more than just big talk, big egos, and big promises. The Beltway boys claimed a close second place for the biggest average penis size in the nation.

As for the "biggest" state in the Union? While New Hampshire may be one of the smallest states, it's not so small when it comes to penis size, topping Condomania’s state by state comparison.

America's first condom store, Condomania (condomania.com), has just unlocked its huge database of penis sizes and released these unique rankings of the 50 states and the 20 most populated U.S. cities by average penis size. After 20 years in business, Condomania knows perhaps more than anyone else about the nation's penises.

So just how does Condomania know these intimate details? In 2004, the company launched TheyFit Condoms, the world's first line of tailored-fit prophylactics, in 76 sizes. Since then they have sold custom-fit condoms to over 27,000 men in 70 countries, and now have just begun to analyze this incredible cache of data.

"These fitted condoms range in length from 3 to 10 inches and from super slim to extra roomy." says Chris Filkins, Condomania’s Directory of Technology. "After gathering detailed information on over 27,000 penises, we now have the most comprehensive database of penis sizes on the planet! Needless to say, these men's privacy is our utmost concern, and we're interested only in the statistics, and not who's who! But the data itself is pretty interesting."

Previously, the largest formal survey of penis sizes was conducted in 1948 by the famous Kinsey researchers, when 2,500 men recorded their erect penis sizes on pre-stamped cards.

Condomania's ten-times larger database is compiled from the unique "FitKit" measuring system for TheyFit condoms, where the user measures the length and girth of his erect penis to the millimeter and then matches those results to one of 76 possible sizes that comprise different length and girth combinations. In this system, the 76 sizes are comprised of non-sequential letters and numbers, so that the smallest is no more obvious than the largest.

"Unlike other studies in which participants were measuring their penis size solely for the sake of recording a measurement, and were perhaps more likely to exaggerate," says Filkins, "our database is comprised of men looking for the best fit condom for safety and comfort, and thus, we believe, apt to be more accurate." Filkins continues, "The customer satisfaction surveys we received overwhelmingly indicated that men of all sizes, but particularly those on either end of the size spectrum, benefited immensely from a properly fitting condom."

Here are some highlights from Condomania's penis database:

Ohio is only in 38th place but Columbus is in 14th place. Sounds like I need to travel to the big city more often. Columbus is less than a half-an-hour away. Of course it has been so long I may want to remember why I was making the trip in the first place.

I have to point out that this data set is not randomly selected. First of all if you are one of the majority that is average sized, you will probably find over the counter condoms fit fine and would have little motivation to seek out custom (and, I assume, more expensive) ones, so their data set is going to be skewed towards the extremes in size. Secondly, I think there is probably a class issue. I suspect those seeking custom fit condoms are going to be wealthier, more metro-sexual, probably, more blue state than the average.

Of course this is not a random sample, though it is both larger and probably much more accurate than any other large sample.

The most often quoted size numbers are from a study done by Alfred Kinsey, where he asked a number of extroverted men who were willing to be interviewed about their sex lives and sexual practices to, in the privacy of their own homes, measure themselves and send him their measurements on a postcard. It has always been assumed that the numbers were inflated, though it is the only large-scale study to date.

Probably the most accurate sample, though a small one of about 300 men, was done by student nurses who were trained to attend fraternity parties and ask drunken fraternity members to allow themselves to be measured. The study would never pass institutional review board standards and, of course, those who would agree to be measured by an attractive young woman would be more likely to be average or above in size in order to agree (even if they were drunk at the time).

The Condomania study includes over 27,000 men (the largest sample, by far). It has exactly the problems that Transward mentions. These are men who

1) are unsatisfied with the standard size condom (which are sized based on the Kinsey numbers) because they are larger or smaller, and/or

2) want to show off by having fancy, special-order, condoms.

While there will be some average size men in the sample, the numbers will be skewed to those larger and smaller than the “average” sized condom. The Kinsey average was 6-1/4 inches in length. The nurses found an average of 5-3/4 (which may still be larger than the real average).

What is the “average” size? We don’t know, though it is probably not larger than the 5/3/4 inches found by the nurses. This is a subject that sex researchers would like more data on. Some of the self-reported studies are interesting, but may or may not have valid data. Gay men, for example, self-report larger penises than do straight men (and the study is often cited in the literature). However, no researcher has ever taken a tape measure to directly check the data….

The survey is interesting reading but it is TMI

Why would I measure my shrunkin shriveled up

penis to be fitted with a special condom that I have no use for now, and never will again

You wouldn't. However, for the majority of the male population (those who have testicles and absolutely no desire to lose them) it's a simply matter of vanity. They spend too much time wrapping their ego into the size of their dicks.

Glad I'm not one of those.

An interesting historical precedent on penis measurements is Sir Richard Francis Burton, the great English explorer, who reported the sexual customs everywhere he went. (Early in his career he was almost kicked out of the army when, asked to report on a boy brothel in what is now Pakistan, his report was much too detailed .. he observed that an uncastrated boy commanded twice the price of an eunuch because the intact scrotum provided a bridle to control the movement of the mount during the deed)

In a footnote to his 15 volume translation of the Arabian Nights: (remember this was written in the 1800's before the advent of political correctness)

Debauched women prefer negroes on account of the size of their parts. I measured one man in Somali-land who, when quiescent, numbered neatly six inches. This is a characteristic of the negro race and of African animals; e.g. the horse; whereas the pure Arab, man and beast, is below the average of Europe ; one of the best proofs by the by, that the Egyptian is not an Asiatic, but a negro partially whitewashed. Moreover, these imposing parts do not increase proportionally during erection ; consequently, the "deed of kind " takes a much longer time and adds greatly to the woman's enjoyment. In my time no honest Hindi Moslem would take his womenfolk to Zanzibar on account of the huge attractions and enormous temptations there and thereby offered to them. Upon the subject of Imsak ==: retention of semen and "prolongation of pleasure," I shall find it necessary to say more.

In his report of his African explorations he again reports on the sexual mores and commnets on the size of penises. I wonder what these tribes, who may never have seen a white before, though of this giant white guy who shows up and wants to talk about sex and measure their penises. His partner, Speke, who is credited with discovering the source of the Nile, totally weirded out the natives with his fondness for shooting pregnant big game, particularly lions, cutting out the fetuses and eating them raw, It would probably freak me out too.

His data, which he recorded meticulously in his notebooks would be invaluable today. A thousand and one curses on his wife who, when he died, burned all of them to sanitize his reputation and save his soul.

I'd like to be a tailor who fits custom condoms. What a career! I could help my clients stay erect for fittings, etc. Better stop now before this becomes pornographic. Thanks for a provocative story.

While the data isn't random, it is hard to guess how it might be skewed. I would think that both big and little guys would prefer custom-fit condoms, and even if big guys were more likely to order condoms (or even be sexually active) that effect might be consistent in the different regions (i.e. if the big guys in all regions ordered, then you could still make a correct assessment on biggest). It would be skewed towards computer-literate people because it is an online system, and that probably also means younger people.

I suppose it also would be skewed by the sexual mores of the various states and cities, for example in some cities maybe everyone feels comfortable ordering condoms, and in other places maybe only a subset (blacks, gays, Atheists, etc.).

I think the real problem with the "data" is that they actually don't give the data, but only the results. So the difference from biggest to smallest might only be a millimeter or two. Also, what about thick and short versus long and skinny? Which did they consider (probably only length).
