I put them in right-side-up, upside down, Hell I'd try it sideways if I thought it would help 😄

I just thought, and no insult intended, once you download the software, you have to install it. A restart of the computer may be necessary.

Yes, I sometimes have to remind myself to install what I have downloaded. --FLO--

If you have a data DVD, see if the computer will read it. If it will, then your DVD drive is working correctly.

If you can't read the data DVD, then there is probably a hardware problem. DVD drives use a different laser for CDs and DVDs so it is possible for a drive to partially fail so that it can still read CDs but not DVDs.

I inserted one of the DVD's into my computer but it wouldn't play and no disc icon appeared on my desktop.

Apparently, this computer didn't come with a movie player.

Which one do I look for to download.

My computer is a Mac OS X 10.4.11

10.4 does come with a dvd player. It's called DVD Player and it's in your Applications folder.

If there's no disc icon on the desktop then the computer isn't even recognizing the disc. Downloading a program from the internet won't help. Your computer may just have a cd drive, the drive may be damaged or the disc may be bad. Does the computer just sit there after you put in the disc or does it eject the disc after a while? If it ejects it after a while then it's a bad disc. If it just sits there then you probably have a cd-drive and not a dvd-drive.

I looked in the Applications folder. There is nothing for CD or DVD.
