One of the U.S. diplomatic cables released today by Wikileaks opens up some interesting questions. If you wish to track it down, the cable heading is

C O N F I D E N T I A L SECTION 01 OF 02 JEDDAH 000443
SIPDIS
DEPT FOR NEA/ARP, NEA/PPD
EO 12958 DECL: 10/31/2014
TAGS SA, SCUL, SOCI, ZR">ZR, KISL
SUBJECT: UNDERGROUND PARTY SCENE IN JEDDAH: SAUDI YOUTH
FROLIC UNDER "PRINCELY PROTECTION"
REF: A. JEDDAH 0292 B. JEDDAH 0079
JEDDAH 00000443 001.2 OF 002
Classified By: Consul General Martin R. Quinn for reasons 1.4 (b) and ( d)
Most of the cable is about drugs, alcohol, and hired prostitutes at a large party thrown by one of the Saudi royal princes, but one bit caught my eye. A line that , Royalty, attended by "khawi," keep religious police at bay. A footnote defines khawi.
It is common practice for Saudi princes to grow up with hired bodyguards from Nigeria or other African nations who are of similar age and who remain with the prince well into adulthood. They are called "khawi," derived from the Arabic word "akh," meaning "brother." The lifetime spent together creates an intense bond of loyalty.
In other words, small Black African boys are hired to serve as lifetime companions and servants for Saudi princes. I would certainly like to know more

Re: Saudi Princes & Their Black African Brothers
All the Semites have always had a tradition of this type of servitude. The Marmaluks -servants brought in from the northeast of the Arab world had a lot to do with the development of modern playing cards during the time of the latter middle ages in Europe.

As I was about to upload a short message, "so where is the news" I found this quote.
A dubious concept is enlarged within the quote and I would ask the author for some reputable reference.
Or thanks to the Mameluks (Marmaluks), call a Spade a Spade.
A response might be, slavery exists in the Old Testament. But, not the abuse except by evil conquerors. Pharaoh, the Babs, etc.
So how could such a statement be made in good faith? Please reference or delete.

Re: Saudi Princes & Their Black African Brothers
The Semites of ancient Mesopotamia, the Hebrew Semites, the Babylonian Semites, the Aramaic Semites, the Palestinian Semites, the Semites of the gulf states, the Semites of the Arabian Peninsula, the Arabs (Semites) that had moved into Egypt and northern Africa. Possibly even some of the Jewish Semites although they've pretty much have lost most of their "Semite"ness especially the ones that are mostly descended from Eastern Europe. These all are Semites and have a special culture.
I have studied. Now why are you so quick and speedy to accuse me of what you your very self are?
P.S. The Mamaluks were taken mostly from the Turkish tribes and many were made into personal servants.

Well Bravo for Dev and yes the Mamaluks were as Turkic as Sal-al-Din.
However, Dev wrote
"
" in message #3 <scroll up> and if you <scroll up even further> it was in response to assertions of abusing slaves, etc.devi (imported) wrote: Thu Dec 09, 2010 7:22 pm All the Semites have always had a tradition of this type of servitude.
"This type of servitude" in context would state, a type where house servants and slaves may be physically abused and is common to all Semitic peoples.
That's just the context of what Dev says in reply to what was written above. Unknowing or purposefully bigoted?
Did Dev who has studied mightily:D , mean to say otherwise?

Hey some of the best bigots are scholars.
Any offense on "D"'s part should be no more quantitatively speaking then that which he wrote. Note the use of quotes and the sincere question, "what did you mean, in context".
Robert E. Howard's short stories did a lot to encourage me to study this history.

They are not allowed to abuse the servants and you know that. But it does happen occasionally.
