The tears that always are -- mine, with that story.
Nice work.
After I cry myself to sleep and read it another day I may have more to say.
There are some sensitive and intelligent carbon life forms in this zoo, and the zoo keeper is one of them.

Thank you, folks, but this is just the cleaned up and edited version of the 2004 story, with an alternate ending and a few more little details thrown in.
BUT I am glad that you all read it and commented!

Re: The Christmas that Never Was
I'm a little late to this party, but here's a clip from the pm I sent Paolo about this one;
This story hit me rather hard the first time, and did so again this time. Definitely one much more for the heart, than the funny-bone. Excellent writing, and the undertone of despicable behavior and horror made me shudder.
This is definitely a classic of the genre, showing the darkest side of the subject. Great, but very heavy.
Soooooo I had to re-route my emotions and read something of (his) that was almost entirely opposite in tone; I just re-read "Malcom's Lost Middle", and giggled all the way through. That was another very well written piece that showed off (Paolo's) wit more than his construction skills... what a fun piece!
