"It's Different For Girls" & "Normal"

Post by JessicaH (imported) »

I watched the first half of a movie called "Normal" last night which is about a middle age married man in a small town corn belt community that finally gets to a point with his GID that he has to come out and transition.

I was in a funky depressed mood and it was too emotionally draining to finish the movie so I will finish it later when I have more emotional energy. It was sad and maybe too many of the issues faced by the character hit too close to home in some ways and with being on the verge of a panic attack all day yesterday, it was jsut too much to finish the movie.

For a bit of a mood lifter, Valerie put on "It's Different For Girls", which is an early 90's film about a British post-op TG who meets someone from her distant past and developes a special relationship with him.

There are a few odd turns to the film and it does emphasize some of the realities, fears and joys of a post-op life. I enjoyed the film and would recommend it. It's an unconventional love story with some unusual twists.

I have seen parts of "It's Different for girls" cause my sister recorded it, cause she liked it. As for "Normal", I didn't really like it all that much, but I could see from where the main character was coming from - unfortunately, I didn't really like it cause it did hit very close to home - just I was like him, but at a much younger age.

Still, both are worth watching, provided you watch "Normal", with popcorn and soda to hand; while having lots of Kleenex as well.

Movies I have a tendency to like, always wind up on a shelf in my bookcase ( which has 300 paperback books and 800 DVDs). That way, I can go back and watch a movie when I wish, rather than despair that it is no longer out there - and I can invite friends over for special movie nights -(next special night we will be watching "The Rocky Horror Picture Show")!!!
