The walking dead

Post by Dave (imported) »

The other show I watched tonight was AMC's episode 2 of THE WALKING DEAD.

Now I'm not that big of a zombie fan. However, AMC does excellent stuff. Most zombie stories are run away from the dead people and ugliness like that. The pots are thin, the dialog predictable and the situations contrived.

This isn't. This is about the survivors and how they survive and how they deal with dispatching the dead. Not all of the zombies are strangers and smashing the brains out of friends and relatives.

HOWEVER, this episode had a sequence that really did make me wince, grimace and turn away. Holy shit was that situation gory and nasty. I mean, all zombie movies are gross-out stories but this little twist and how it was executed.

oh, and we also saw the hero's wife (they were separated by the disaster) having adulterous sex with another man. That's got to be a devastating kaboom in the future.

Then there is they guy they left behind handcuffed on the roof of a building. His brother ain't going to be a happy camper.

Is this based on the Walking Dead graphic novels?

As an old fart, I miss the classics.

When Vampires were restricted to night.

And Werewolves less common.

Of all the remakes i support the Mummy series only.

Well maybe "Wolf Lake" too.

Never liked the first walking dead or any after. Dracula and the Werewolf had their limitations. Gore for gore sake is best left to war movies.

The classics had a morality story to tell if you could see it.

Not just blood, guts, dismemberment and gore.

Episode one of the show asked the question "would you shoot someone you knew or someone you loved just because they were a zombie" and it was an excellent story.

In most zombie movies that decision is given short shrift as drama. In this story, it is shown as emotionally devastating.

Handling zombies is just a matter of proper etiquette. Know what zombies like and dislike, and you won't offend.

Zombies dislike:

Ballroom dancing

Lyric poetry

Synchronized swimming

Zombies like:

Mucking about

Crowds of fellow zombies

Steak tartare

Gray areas:

IRS status pending

Best shades of lipstick and blush (for female zombies)

Start of Zombie Olympics, especially the track and field events

Tonight's episode "VATOS" was excellent and so very sad. Just sad. Not heartbreaking sad but horrific sad.

Who really are "The Walking Dead"??? Are they already dead? Or are there merely waiting to die? And why do the words "I'm only the janitor" just echo across the barren landscape?

:(
