This question was posed in a Yahoo group. I thought it was a rather interesting question. I thought I would toss it out here to see what people think.

What motivates castration between partners and as a fantasy?

In history there were solid practical reasons to have eunuchs - for attendance

in the many harems; for generals and soldiers after a military defeat; for

certain male singers; as legal or local punishment for sexual offenses, or in

households restraining slaves, etc etc.

Today, there are none of these reasons to castrate - perhaps bar the medical or

punishment side of castration - yet the relative popularity of the fantasy and

practice persists strongly in modern times on a consensual basis.

There must be something sexually powerful in the concepts and practices of

castration - what are these?

I'm not too sure what motivates the fantasy side of it, but couldn't a regular reason be that the husband still wants sex a great deal yet his wife doesn't, so they make a sensible decision to head down the road of castration (or just of a minor reduction of his sex drive chemically)?

The other sensible decision is to discuss ways of increasing the wife's sex drive.

Unfortunately most partners make the least sensible decision under these regular circumstances: which is not to make any decision at all.

Identity: I belief that nature made a mistake in our physical gender assignment.

Control: A desire to reduce or eliminate excessive sexual desire.

Punishment: Self punishment for desires we were taught were sinful or abhorrent.

Submission: An act of role play.

Aesthetics: A belief that others will find castration attractive.

Rebellion: A slap in the face to societal expectations of conformity.

Justification: A physical justification for life long feelings of inadequacy.

I like micropenis's list of possible reasons but instead of looking at them as singular reasons, I think combinations of them come together to make the desire to be castrated even stronger. I know I fit into several to varying degrees and while one reason may not have induced me to be castrated, the combination was sufficently powerful to do so.

That is very true.... My own thoughts, having come very, very close to getting castrated myself, is that the social stigma of gay men is high and it is a way of getting away from an unwanted sexual identity.. there are other straight guys who also want to escape the sexual pressure of this society.. both categories of men probably would have gone into a monastery in another era.

That said there is also a strange aesthetic attraction to it.. something I have , and it is often expressed on eunuch.org and other sites that discuss castration... why some of us feel that testicles look "wrong" defies any logic.

I believe singular reasons may be the basis for fantasy. Those who actualy become eunuchs do so because of many reasons. Each to thier own unique degree.

These were just the ones I came up with off the top of my head. I feel each one to varying degrees myself.

For me - and others like me - who have a cuckold mindset the idea of giving up our "manhood" (especially for a Woman) is ever so exciting.

It seems only fitting and proper to a cuckold to have an empty sack hanging down with a limp, totally useless penis as a symbol of his sexual inferiorty compared to Real Men.
