Re: What movie scared you the most?
I will agree that the Hellraiser movies are sufficiently scary, I find it's not them that scare me the most. Alien and The Thing are both well done scary you movies, but neither one has stayed with me like others. I think for me the more scary can be found in the psychological horror movies, such as Silence of the Lambs, or war horror movies like Jacob's Ladder. That one digs in and makes you want to read Alex Jones.

One of the best purely psychological Hitchcock thrillers was "Vertigo" and it did thrill in so many different ways.
IT's one of the deepest, darkest journeys into Obsession. And it's so tragic at the end.

Maybe because I was 8 years old.
I had to slip my hand around to a light switch and turn on the light before entering a dark room, for the longest time.
I had seen other "horror" movies but this one had a really spooky monster.

I saw the Exorcist the year it came out - I went on All Hallows Eve. It held my attention but it wasn't scary.

Re: What movie scared you the most?
Would a strong emotional response be akin to fear or fright? When I watched the Saw series of movies, it was more repulsion than fright. I don't think I've ever been scared watching any movie, unless you count the time I was a young kid and watched ghostbusters... 2? whichever one is the one where the statue of liberty fights the marshmellow man in NY. But when I was watching Saw I think i felt a very strong emotion of repulsion as I can understand how the victims felt when you're forced to effectively harm or mutilate yourself in permanent ways.
