Re: Trivia question
Was it an African Nation or a Portuguese or Spanish colony?
Moi thinks
it is a trick question.
Or did Jamestown just tank before they could even import any African Slaves?
Without reviewing history I believe the Jamestown colony gave up after a while and moved to better ground. ? ?

The first slaves arrived in Jamestown in 1619. (Yes, there are some African Americans who can trace ancestry back to a time BEFORE the Pilgrims sailed on the Mayflower)
Most were from the Bantu tribe in east central Africa. The Portugese assisted other African tribes in capturing slaves and were heavily involved in the slave trade, but they did not enter or colonize.
Africa was not colonized until the 1800's.
During the 1500's, 1600's and 1700's, the Spanish and Portugeese PURCHASED slaved from Africa, they did not go inland. They traded in cities and trading posts on the coasts.
Oh, and Jamestown was the capital of the Virginia Colony from 1607 until 1698, when the capital was moved to Williamsburg.
