New chats, bitch mail, overall whining

Now, I suppose I'm going to piss off a number of people with this post, but I'm going to do it anyway! So there ...

There seems to be an issue or two or three with the new chat room that certain 'computer whizzes' here at the Eunuch Archive have literally busted their proverbial asses on all fucking week to get going. In case you didn't know this, the current chat costs MONEY to use. Yes, the Archive PAYS to have this chat online for YOU to use. BME does NOT cover that part.

Betcha didn't know that, didja?!

The whole point of the new chat is to put it on a box that is OWNED by the Staff of EA. We own the box, we pay only ISP access just like you do. Then we won't be paying ADDITIONAL bandwidth fees so that you can chat it up, folks.

And today alone, it's been bitch bitch bitch all day long! Well, maybe Talula should have hung up a yellow blinking lighted sign that says ROUGH FUCKING PAVEMENT AHEAD, DRIVE CAREFULLY! while it's being built to better service YOU, the EA members.

You'd think you were being cheated out of service for the high fees you pay to use this site. That's sarcasm, by the way, you aren't going to be billed on your next phone bill, don't worry.

The Eunuch Archive is FREE, thanks to BME, and WE pay the bills for the chat. Not you.

Soooooooo - if you have a problem with the chat, you have a few choices:

1. Report the bug in a technical and non-emotional manner. Define the problem. State your OS and Browser and the problems and/or errors.

2. Be precise. "I hate this new chat" will only get me telling you to fuck off.

3. Go start your own site/chat line and leave us alone.

4. Get a part time job to pay for such chat line.

5. Get a copy of "Computers for total idiots" and read it. Or learn to read in the first damn place.

It's not brain surgery, people, and if the directions vanished, tell us that. It's easy to lose things in the dust when you're building.

you guys are doing a great job and I think that everybody appreciates it. Some of us might complain but most of us appreciate your efforts.

You expect us to be polite to others and to be fair with our complaints and criticisms. You would ban any of us for a post like you just posted. Mutual respect is needed in both directions.

Thank you for your wounderful and dedicated efforts to make this site possible. If we can't respect each other and be polite to each other, Who Can?

It has been a busy day today with all the changes in the chat room. I would have to agree with Paolo as I have seen a lot of people gripe and complain about the chat not working right.

There were a few problems that were encountered today and I imagine there will be a few more show their ugly heads in the next couple of day. However Bboy & Talula have been working hard on solving the issues. They fixed issue with people not showing up in the user list.

I know things are still a bit hectic and it will take a little while for people to get used to. But that is the nature of the beast with any change.

For those complaining about the new software being tested better before it was deployed I would agree a little. However like Paolo said the old software had a monthly fee, and would have expired on the 1st.

I will try and work on posting directions on how to use the new chat software.

FYI. If anyone wants to complain about the new chat software, such as it sucks or anything remotely similar in the chat room don't expect to stay around long. If asked to stop your complaining by a Channel Operator (people with "@" symbol in front of username) don't try and start a pissing match, cause you will loose.

As Paolo stated, if you encounter a problem let one of the Operators know. Make sure to clearly state what problems you are having, and information like what software you are using, your browser and Operating system.

If you have a question about how to do something in the chat just ask, and someone should be able to help you. I'm more than willing to take time to answer questions.

God, I answer email after email helping people, not to mention all the hours and dollars I spend on the Archive and because I don't want to hear some asshole tell me how much it sucks all I am not giving "respect".

Yes, polite and respect is great but one can only take so much without getting angry.

The site is free, and WITHOUT all kinds of banner ads and pop-ups like on virtually every other 'adult' site.

How true.

I have run into problems at work installing new software all the time. There is only so much testing that you can do before implementing new software. I always give the first week or so after implementing new software at work to fix all the bugs that the users find.

Problems can arise due to differences with people's computer setup, version of software they are running, etc.

Everyone just needs to give it some time and get used to the change. The NEW software has a lot of cool features. If you are using mIRC (http://www.mirc.com/) you can actually send files (Photos, etc.) to other users that using mIRC (http://www.mirc.com/) or some of the other clients.

Like I said in my last post, ask for help. Most of the Operators and some of the users are willing to answer questions and work with you on problems. DON'T just complain without giving it some time and effort.

Guess I'll add my two cents worth.

First let me say that I understand peoples worries and concerns about the new chat room. It is a new thing and it will take time for folks to understand how to use it.

Also, please understand that since the very advent of a Eunuch Archive chat room users have requested different features be added to make the chat experience more pleasurable. These were never implemented because it was impossible due to the very nature of the software design.

Now we have the most powerful chat room software available for you to use, an IRC. It includes every feature I have heard folks ask for and more. What you put into it is what you will get out of it.

Yes you can private chat! Yes you can swap photos! Yes you can have prearranged meetings on a private channel! Yes you can register your nickname so no one else can use it! Yes you can leave messages to another user who is not online! Yes you can be in more than one chat channel! Yes you can change the colors!

Never before have so many features been offered on the chat room. There are many new commands to use because of this. A good tutorial is at http://www.irchelp.org.

On a side note - random thinking:

The operators are there to help you. Let them.

If you have criticisms or concerns, please vocalize them constructively. By not doing so you become part of the problem.

Please realize we still fine-tuning this.

A user suggested to me that we are going to lose chatters by having this new chat room. My reply is "phooey". If someone doesn't want to chat on something that is far more powerful and feature-filled then the old one then it is thier loss. I do not want to see us lose even one chatter because of this but I will not lose sleep.

It takes a LOT to get me to ban someone.

Looking back, I don't recall anyone that I've banned without at least ONE warning. In the latest case, which didn't take place on the board, the warning went unheeded and ... POW ... right in the kisser, as the old saying goes.

Of course, that was a rare case of troll infestation, much like garden gnome infestation. Sometimes you just have to pick 'em up and see how far you can kick 'em.

Paolo, Bboy, Talula, Luvpain, and others I understand how you feel, most of the people never came in to check out the new room over the last week or so, but I was out there each day, saying things I liked and did not. The first one that came up had a black background, yuck, The point is folks these guys have spent hours and hours getting it to this point when the old chat could be dropped. There not done yet, there is still a lot of work to do and as far as training, I don’t know anything about mIRC but I am learning. If an old guy like me can do so can you. Be nice or Paolo will never get the chance to eject you, I will.

PS. Great job to the EA staff and helpers on the new chat, I did like the old one but I think I am going to love the new one.
