Re: There's Always The Weather
Was in French River Provincial Park last week, 4 hours north of Toronto, a few of the trees were starting to change colour, so yes, autumn is indeed on the way

Here in northern Idaho It's that time of the year to be breathing wildfire smoke again
Re: There's Always The Weather
We had an unpredicted rain bomb storm here today. Went from clear to "red 1" on the radar in a matter of minutes.
1.5" in about 90 minutes.

My garden is pretty much gone, but for the container plants.
Perhaps your garden needs artificial watering?
This is often practiced in arid regions, if this is of course possible.
After all, you can’t count on rare rain storms?

I have never saw a microburst called a rain bomb storm before and I actually had to look this one up.
We had one about a week and a half ago about 10 miles north of me (no warnings) that flattened 24 power poles and dropped 2 inches of rain in about 10 minutes. I was watching it on radar and it looked kinda weird like it was wanting to do something, but they never issued a warning....they should have. Totaled a couple cars travelling down the road, cause of the electricity frying the cars, but no one was hurt.

Re: There's Always The Weather
I've planted more paw-paw trees, and I've let the volunteer purple peach tree go this year by not mowing. Also planted a new variety of peach, but I forgot the species. I've also put out some plums, but they're not looking so good.
On a better note, the wild mushrooms did well after the surprise rains. I've had more Chicken of the Woods (Laetiporus sulphureus,) than I can eat, as well as the smooth chanterelles.
Spent a few hours this afternoon chopping up end of season tomatoes to freeze for roasting and use in soups this winter.
