Just to the north of us is the Kincaide Fire, which has now burned nearly 20 square miles (50 square kilometers) and has zero containment so far. The temperature today hit a high of 96°F (36°C) and the humidity was as low as 7%. (It’s 9% now.) The wind last night, when the fire began and quickly spread, was 75 miles per hour (120 kph). We are all looking forward to winter with cold and rain.

The town of Geyserville (population 1200) has been evacuated and friends, with kids and dogs, are staying with my daughter. We may well end up with friends in our spare bedroom, as well.

In the way back times of the fifties - Hollywood Hills

there were "controlled burns" to contain wildfires their fuel.

But, a few got out of control and = = = no more controlled burns.

CONTROL THE FUEL

Bring in the grazing herds.

Create such fire breaks not to disturb the environmentalists.

Although the fired areas blossom with many of their "concerned" species.

We are now in FIRE SEASON.

That is horrible what people are going thru. The tiny positive is I hope people grow a little closer setting aside all the modern toys and dealing with and helping each other.

We've had the first set of autumn winds come ripping through, stripping most of the trees and nearly taking the roof off. One good rain storm, and a hard freeze coming this Friday night. Season has officially changed!

The numbers are not that low, but it is a gray day.

It feels cold. Too cold for my usual light, cotton long sleeve shirt.

I put on a flannel shirt.

No rain.

None in the 10 day forecast.

The bright side is a flannel shirt day.

The news sources report 80 to 100mph winds driving the fires. That's hurricane force winds in a straight line.

By The Lord's Grace,

The O.C. has hardly a breeze

while high wind fire storms happen hardly 50 miles away.

Sometimes wind events will follow the Santa Ana River area and funnel down to

Upper Newport Bay too.

Not this year.

Maybe fifties style roof sprinklers should make a comeback.

And It rained all day and night for Halloween while the temperature dropped from 68F to 34F this morning ... Some places got nearly 2 inches of rain.

You might say Fall Fell with a bang

We had snow flurries all day on Halloween, and some stuck. Maybe 1/4" in some areas, gone by this morning. It got down to 25F last night, so a hard freeze that killed off the stuff left. Time to dig the canna lily bulbs now. I had already dug all the sweet potatoes and taro bulbs. It was about 50F and sunny today, though.

Paolo, with such cold weather, did you get to avoid the pesky "Trick or Treaters" who come every Halloween?
