Just to the north of us is the Kincaide Fire, which has now burned nearly 20 square miles (50 square kilometers) and has zero containment so far. The temperature today hit a high of 96°F (36°C) and the humidity was as low as 7%. (Its 9% now.) The wind last night, when the fire began and quickly spread, was 75 miles per hour (120 kph). We are all looking forward to winter with cold and rain.
The town of Geyserville (population 1200) has been evacuated and friends, with kids and dogs, are staying with my daughter. We may well end up with friends in our spare bedroom, as well.
In the way back times of the fifties - Hollywood Hills
there were "controlled burns" to contain wildfires their fuel.
But, a few got out of control and = = = no more controlled burns.
CONTROL THE FUEL
Bring in the grazing herds.
Create such fire breaks not to disturb the environmentalists.
Although the fired areas blossom with many of their "concerned" species.
