Re: There's Always The Weather
Normally about mid-Sept to mid-Oct we drop off Big Summer into Small Summer. There was a feint two weeks ago just to get our hopes up and dash them. We had a storm front mid-week which might do the trick. The outlook shows temps generally 10 degrees cooler. Yippee!
Re: There's Always The Weather
Here in the Midwest US, we had a heat index of 101F the day before, and 100F yesterday. It's dry. The corn is beginning to "fire", which means it's losing leaves from the ground up as the plant matures. The problem is, it's been very dry here for about 2 months. The yard is just dust and crackling brown grass. The corn and beans aren't setting a good yield, that much you can see. That, and most fields are half empty, after about 1/3 of them couldn't even be planted this spring due to rain. Look for food prices to spike sharply this fall when harvesting begins.

Re: There's Always The Weather
In the south of the UK we are having a bit of a late summer.
I have been for a dip in the sea most weekends.
The strawberry plants think its Spring again and I am looking forward to a second mini harvest from them
providing they don't get hit by a frost.
It has generally been an exceptional year for fruit in my garden
Peaches (Yes I can grow them in the south) Apples Plums Pears and Cherries were in abundance.
I put it down to a normal (Wetish) mild spring.

Well I haven't shared for a while because I "knew" @Dave would schadenfreude Moi.
Humidity brings a sort of stinky air and a diff of about 5F between actual and feels like temperature.
Actual temp in the low 80's. Finally cold temperatures below 70.
Wish for a Pacific storm from the north.
The reported "blob" of hot water is back along the coast of Baja California, California to the Pacific Northwest. I fear that warmth will dissipate cold rain storms from the north.
The Fuji apples turned rosy early but, are just beginning to get sweet.
The Peter's Honey Fig is going gang busters. Too cold here for Mission Figs.
Got some plums off a bare root tree planted last year. Sweet, yummy yellow flesh but, round. Not the advertised Sugar Prune Plum. I'm satisfied.
ANYONE CORN KNOWLEDGEABLE PLEASE EXPLAIN.
Also had some delicious corn from seeds one of my "Mexicans" brought me.
Huge seeds. The corn was sweet and the stalks continued to produce beyond a first picking.

psst, @Dave - Winter Is Coming. think GoT.
Re: There's Always The Weather
Still hot and dry here. Another near 100F heat index. Corn and beans are beginning to "fire", which means that the plants are dying from the bottom up as the grain that set goes into final maturity stage. It's not looking all that great. Many fields have great empty swaths in them, and some didn't planted at all this spring due to heavy rain.

Re: There's Always The Weather
Looks like we'll be importing corn and soy from China to meet our needs (sorry, couldn't resist that one).
Meanwhile, out in the great western desert, house was colder at sunrise than AC set for. Time for using a little heat is in sight.

Re: There's Always The Weather
Well, this is the first day we only reached the 80s in how long now???
It’s still nice...upper 90s -low 100s all last week...and pretty much since May.

The Weather
Moderate.
Just moderate.
Boring.
The Santa Ana Winds events are far from "The O.C."
as are the fires.
"They" sure built up a scare with so many having no electricity
so damaged equipment doesn't spark a fire.
The "cure" for the wildfires is "grazing" critters to create fire breaks.
Goats, sheep, cattle.
The good news is the airplanes approach the John Wayne airport over my home
rather than take off over my home. Big diff at 7 AM!
