I felt the 7.1!

About 30 seconds. Just shaking. No rolling or up / down

Sitting at my P.C. I noticed the lamp shaking.

Too many synapses later I realized it was an earthquake

and went out into the back yard where I observed

the neighbor's pool down the hill, sloshing.

Not water sloshing out of the pool as I witnessed in the late 90's.

It stopped and I came back inside.

The cats were not concerned in the least.

I've read that on other forums and one that said the dogs were

acting up but, not the cats.

Whose the smarter?

I felt both quakes.

My cats were unperturbed by by the on on the 4th, but got up and wandered around worriedly during the 7.1.

I just sat tight during both, but became concerned at how l-o-n-g the shaking went on for the bigger quake.

Even with heat indexes over 100F, we're still getting the near-daily rain in the form of cloudbursts with high winds. Many fields are still flooded, crops drowning, and even more simply washed away. Literally. We've lost several trees here, just snapped off at ground level, the roots half-rotted and saturated. The water table is literally the surface of the ground. I just pull the mower, and let the water fly, running it wide open.

NPR had a clip here in AZ about Midwest corn crop. Indiana or Ohio I think. Corn planted a month late and is ankle high where should be much, much higher. Summer work schedule for kids working de-tasseling is all screwed up. As you say, after all the worry and finally getting a field planted, it is now flooded and useless. Ah, agriculture.

We actually made it through today with only a minute or so of sparse sprinkles. Heat index was reported as only 95F, with a temp of 89F. Sure felt like a lot more, but over 10 degrees cooler than yesterday. I love how Weather Underground and all the other apps keep lowballing things, and then update to higher and higher temps and chances for rain as the day progresses.

Where as Yahoo weather and networks "high ball" the temperature predictions,

and adjust down at the time approaches.

Same, same here.

Racoon in the yard last night tore up my lawn before I noticed and scooted him out.

However it did not make it to the other side of the electric fence. They do work.

The white onions are nothing special. No real flavor. :(

The storms seem to have left the area here. The farmers around me haven't been able to harvest the hay for their horses and cattle. It needs three or four dry days to make good hay when it is cut and bailed. The ones who did cut and bailed it wet and had to leave it outside to dry because it can spontaneously combust and burn down their barn. If it grows to light wheat color from proper green, then it doesn't have the nutritional value to feed to livestock and the farmers have to buy food.
