There's Always The Weather
Re: There's Always The Weather
Wednesday calls for near 50F with rain. Then almost 0 Thursday night with a snowy weekend in the 20's forecast.
It was 48 this AM, and by 5PM, it was near 20. My doors were frozen shut, as it rained all morning, and my tires were frozen to the pavement.
We have yet to go below 0 here in IN.

Re: There's Always The Weather
Our weather here in Wine Country is just about the long-term average for the season. The high today was 63° and the low tonight, under absolutely clear skies, is predicted to be 38°. We are finally up to average rainfall for the season, but with no new rain until early next month. We are supposedly in a "warming trend", with predicted highs in the low 70s by the weekend.

Re: There's Always The Weather
It's been dry, only in the low seventies but feels, "hot".
Lows in the mid fifties and likewise feels, "cold".
Suppose to cloud in some and maybe more rain way off in the forecast.
Some corn is sprouting. Looks like hominy from the seeds.
And a rabbit ate my dill. Left his calling card.
The Yard, sleeps. But, the hyacinth and narcissus don't know.
They be blooming.

Re: There's Always The Weather
The rain they said when it was way off, see above
is scheduled to arrive Thursday and last through Monday
with a possible break Friday. All total, maybe a total of 2.5 inches.
I have my rain glass set up.
The sky is changing as if announcing via clouds in a once clear sky.
68 / 54 High / Low. My fruit trees need chill hours
@kristoff there in the E.A. :hearthrobLand, - - - "How Cold?" "Feels like?"
@Dave I guess the cold skipped your paradise valley of Pittsburgh
Not to ignore @Paolo nor fellow "sons of the West" @Arab Nights and @Jesus
I am looking at one beautiful sunset with oranges growing deeper
parallel gray, blue gray areas adding contrast and small peeks of turquoise blue sky.

Re: There's Always The Weather
Temperature right now is 18 below in my backyard. Supposed to get down to -29 tonight. Up north it is supposed to go as low as -40. We'll see if my truck starts in the AM. Have an 0800 appointment to be at, assuming they are not closed due to cold. All kinds of businesses and schools, etc. are closed tomorrow.

CBS News makes it sound like or terms it a
Weather Emergency.
How do rubber tires work at those temperatures.
How about a dipstick oil heater to keep the engine cozy over cold nights.
If not a heated garage.

Re: There's Always The Weather
It's not about Rubber tires...
Temperatures that close to zero Fahrenheit with winds suck the warmth from people outside -- Schools cancel because they don't want children standing outside. Other meetings and events cancel because it is dangerous even for adults.
In Western PA, at 10:30pm Eastern (Tuesday) it was 15°F. That's the high temperature for the next 24 hours at least. The forecast is for temperatures to drop all day Wednesday until Thursday at 6:00am when it will bottom out at -5°F (yes minus) ...
No one wants children out, adults standing and waiting... anything like that. Gasping for air that cold damages the lungs.
Also
The colder car batteries get, the more they lose maximum power. The car battery starts the motor turning and has to fire the spark plugs. Once the motor turns, then the generator/alternator takes over the electric supply but until then, it's all on that battery. That's why so many batteries fail in the cold to have sufficient power. I know about this because I had a car that was susceptible to not starting in cold weather until I completely changed the factory battery to a larger battery.

Re: There's Always The Weather
Speaking of batteries, the good old Interstate (green and white) just ain't what they used to be. Stay away from them.
I got a nice big $150, 7-year model, and got 2 years out of it. No prorate either; I ended up with the mom'n'pop shop here giving me a 5-year at cost, cash, under the table. I got just over a year out of it. I figure Interstate owes me 9 years of battery. Called them, and nope...sorry pal, you're out of luck.
As for the temperatures, it's interesting that when you think about it being -30F and going up to ~+40F in a few days, that's a rise of +70F. Imagine that happening in the summer, if the fronts were reversed. It's already 70-80 out, and then it goes to 140-150? It could happen?
Fortunately, I can heat this room quite well with just Talula's beastly old PC that blows out ~35C heat all the time, and two jar candles. It was much warmer, until I took the CPU assembly out, fan, etc. and pulled out a kitten. Well, enough white hair to make a new kitten... hehe!
