The recent days of rain delivered a total of less than 3".

It came down more as a sod soaker than a gully washer.

The news features newer neighborhoods built in the flatlands where water can only pool

and constructions at the base of foothills.

Older neighborhoods are doing just fine.

Of my 3 parallel 4" drains, only the lowest one was needed.

Before El Nino, before the drought there were such storms all 3 were draining well.

El Nino has yet to deliver beyond the hype.

Rain totals less than

And the media should stop hyping the disaster of a few inches of rain in California. 📢

Well, It's winter...

Yesterday, I had to drive around with about a 1/2 inch of snow without my snow tires (they are in the trunk of the car) and get a haircut and go to the supermarket. So I drove at 25 mph and it took a little longer. But I'm home, the refrigerator stocked for a week and warm. I complained big time but still, my car (Chrysler 300) behave like a champ and handled the slippery roads.

Now remember that I live in the southern suburbs of Pittsburgh, PA. We always get winter.

Last night, Washington DC had 6 to 8 hour traffic jams on the entire beltway and all the interstates feeding into the beltway because of a 1/2 inch of snow. These people in DC are in full panicky, diaper-wetting, hysteria over a 1/2 inch.

All I can say is that Washington DC and its suburbs will not survive the upcoming zombie apocalypse...

Or the Richter Scale 11 earthquake that sinks California,

Or the discovery of the 9th planet in the Oort Cloud which will rain fiery meteors on the earth.

It's the same thing here. We got 1"-2" inches here the other day, and the night before, the supermarkets were a wild mob.

As my friend calls it, "the French Toast crowd" : milk, bread, eggs.

My idea of stocking up for snow is a carton of smokes, a gallon of whiskey, plenty of Ibuprofen.

These people have no clue what snow is. I was a kid in the big Blizzard of '78, where we got out of school for Christmas and didn't go back until after Valentine's Day or so.

And of course, we were all out all day long playing in it. Only came home when nearly frozen solid, change of clothes, warmed up, and back out we went.

I bought just over $100 of meat, ten pounds of potatoes and three loaves of bread. three or four boxes of shredded wheat.

That's my idea of storm planning.

Some lunchmeat, buns... Stuff like that.

I don't have fond memories of walking a mile to school and back home in all weather -- hot, cold rainy, snowy, icy.

My neighbor came over today with his farm tractor. Between the front shovel and the back box (I think the manure spreader) I have a one car wide path down my driveway. Tomorrow morning other friends will come up and finish clearing the snow.

However, in my area, the snow was light and fluffy because of the cold. So it drifted in the wind. The depth is anything from 8 inches to a foot to one inch at places. It depended on the slop and side of the hill and the wind pattern.

People were calling the TV news stations and the radio stations telling them and sending them pictures of amounts that variable.

This storm had bands of snow that moved in very odd ways thanks to the wind and the hills.

Added #1: I will never drive through standing water...

The creek nearest my house flooded and froze one year. It's a piddling little thing barely a foot deep at the most. When they plowed the roads -- chunks of ice big as cars and 6 to 8 inches thick were thrown aside like giant ice cubes. I never imagined that creek was even that deep and it was a foot below the road's edge and 10 feet away.

Added #2: I have also spun out in various cars and slid down different hills both forward and backward. . . Now when it snows I stay home. I don't need that "thrill" anymore.

This El Nino driven storm delivered a whole 0.1 inches of rain, if not a tad left.

Winds, gusting up to 40 mph are not pleasant. They came after the alleged rain not with it.

Some areas were hit with gully washers but, they are very spotty.

Not a radar screen full of lots of deep green over a big, big area. Just spots.

The asparagus has been cut down and I am enjoying any spears that come up now,

raw - in my garden. Tasty and tender.

I know why El Nino has not delivered to Southern California yes I do
