Hurricane Joaquín isn't going to hit land. The closest approach might be anywhere from the Carolinas up to Long Island NY.

HOWEVER, the tidal surges from the storm and the rain is pounding the East Coast. Those states are in for storms as long as Joaquin sits in the warmer portions of the Atlantic Ocean. Joaquin will die in the colder northern portions of the Atlantic.

Consider that the thunderstorms that form a hurricane are fed by warm water evaporation and once away from the Gulf Stream (which keeps the East Coast of the USA warm and temperate rather than cold and miserable like Greenland or Iceland) hurricanes die out quickly.

The rain in the middle of the USA (East of the Mississippi and around the Appalachians) is another storm that is bringing lots and lots of rain. It's going to drown the middle of the USA out to the East Coast. It won't limb up the Ohio Valley into northeast and central Pennsylvania. Rather it will take the southern path and push out over Washington DC.

Thankfully the low pressure system is not merging with the hurricane.

Late Hurricanes and these continental lows have merged before. Sebastian Junger wrote a book about that titled "The Perfect Storm"...

They made a movie about the fishing areas hit by that storm, too.

All the models had it hitting me pretty much with the eye wall, until today. For me, if it comes onshore, I want it to be north of here, otherwise we're in for it. I hope it stays out to sea, but we're expecting at least 5 inches of rain on top of 5 inches or so in the past week. That's 2/3 the rain where I lived in California got all of last year.

On the bright side, I won't be thirsty and I can flush the toilet.

Way to go LT always look on the bright side.

The computer models of which there are many show all sorts of things, the English model is the one that shows the storm staying out in the Atlantic. Some of the other ones show it hitting. My advice is plan for it to hit and sigh a sigh of relief when it stays out in the Ocean where it wont hurt anybody. However that storm system coming at you from the west, OH MY.

This early PM there was a most beautiful cloud burst.

A dark cloud with blue sky all around situated over my home and brought my rain total up from

0.25 inches over a long period last night, to 0.4 inches by storm's end.

More Angel tears possible around mid month.

Now for some dry, Santa Ana conditions.

A good weather pattern, hot dry alternating with rain every 8-10 days.

Just Say, "No!"

to drought conditions.

so did we, rained like hell for several hours, really strange for here. We get rain daily but not that much. Today was just cloudy no rain, beautiful day clearing this evening and the sunset was fantastic.

Here in the California desert it is days of 76 degrees though we did get a day of rain - light rain.
