I had a 74 super Beetle, and that little sucker would go through anything, it seemed.

Loved that car, until I hit a concrete bridge with it!

Mine was a 1968 Beetle and I let my brother keep it after he loaded 1400 pounds of soda pop concentrate into it and drove it across the college green. Then he painted 4 inch orange footprints over the hood and roof and down the trunk.

After that, I didn't want it.

POINT:

Pittsburgh is a lovely city with steep hills and snowy, icy winters.

Pittsburgh is able to process snow and ice in the 21st Century keeping their steep roads safe.

Why not a most important arterial highway of California, the Grapevine which has experienced three consecutive days of shut down. (partial) I remember the CHP use to caravan traffic through at reduced speeds but, never these frequent closures over manageable snow. Pittsburgh demonstrates it can be done.

My weather remains 40F - 50F but feels chilly because of the dryness. No clouds. No fog or marine layer.

One of my two Milwaukee winters did that on weekend in early February. It was 50F and shirt sleeve weather. Frisbee in the park. How the apartment groaned and creaked with the rising and lowering temperature.

A nice 1/3 inch of lite soft rain over night. A good sod soaker. Not one gully washer this year.

The white onions I planted are poking up.

It's the wind that sux, not the temperature. I'm out in it all the time, cold doesn't bother me, but the wind cuts like a knife. That's why I wear a vest over my windbreaker. Really.

Hey Riverwind, I remember those temperatures well. I used to live up in Marinette for almost ten years. I remember it was like 38 below in the morning taking the kids to school. The seat in my truck was so cold, it was like sitting on a cement park bench, the foam seats where rock hard. I have a lot of fond memories living up in wisconsin though. As I remember the whole month of January was at or below zero. I am in warmer country now, it will be in the sixties on tuesday and wednesday for me. Skudster
