There's Always The Weather

We've had a series of Pacific storms that I guess have slammed Slammrland but pretty well just drizzle by the time they make it south of Long Beach.

The last clouds moved out a few hours ago leaving crisp cold, suck the heat out of you, low humidity Santa Ana winds. 50F cold

The winds are not expected to last long 'cause another rain chance is due this w'end. Then again, we may not make it to Sunday, 12/23/12

We were supposed to have a big windstorm Sunday night. 60 mph winds were forecast with huge power outages, but it never materialized. We had a little wind, but nothing like was forecast, and there were no power outages in my area. We didn't even have much rain. It's a been a little cooler than usual, but the sun even came out for a while today.

We haven't had a snow event in Portland for several years. We used to have at least one good snow or ice storm a year. I'm not sure it's even got down to freezing yet this year.

I was thinking about going up to Washington State to see my sister this weekend. It's a good thing I didn't. They were snowed in.

In Indiana, I have small flowers and dandelions blooming in the yard. I am still picking mustard and lettuce greens. I still have cabbages (main head picked) alive and going. The yellow forsythia bush is blooming, the grass is green and highs near 50F. We're still in drought, though. My old well is still empty, the more shallow hand-dug one.

It is -21°C here (-5°F for metric impaired), cold and windy. Cold enough that gloves feel too cold and mittens are the way to go.And I am left without central heating (hopefully it would work tomorrow).

Oh, and we are promised even more cold weather. How much more? Pulkovo weather station currently shows 83% humidity and -30°C windchill. Brrr.

I suggest adopting space suit as a "Russian national dress". At least it should be warmer . And definitely protected from the wind.

Global warming? Where is it, when it is needed?

First snow of the season is finally coming to Ohio! Yay! Maybe it will finally start feeling more like Christmas now...

I start thinking of long underwear about then. Have to put away the windbreaker, and get out a vest. River handles it better than I do.

I know, I know one day soon I will need to put shoes on, and put on a jacket or hoodie, soon it will be soon. Went to the VA last week and the doctor laughed at me wearing sandals I had a hoodie with me but did not wear it, it was in the low 30s high 20s range, Not really cold yet.

My new temperature scaled, figured out this summer:

110F - turns AC on, sandals are OK

100F - wears shorts and T-shirt and tennis shoes

90F - T-shirt and jeans and shoes

80F - puts hoodie on

70F - hoodie, jeans, shoes (usually heavy lined boots) and long sleeve T-shirt

60F - thermal underwear, full dress, light coat, knit cap

50F - heavy coat on top of all for 60F

40F - stays indoors, preheats truck until internal temp reaches +90F

30F - space heaters, several candles, hot coffee, will NOT go out unless it's an emergency

20F - Remember Randy from Christmas Story who couldn't move in his snow suit?

10F - no way do I leave the house

0F - movement begins to slow even further

<0F - dies

Can go outside sandals, shorts t-shirt would be better inside with the AC on high

90F - T-shirt and jeans and shoes

Time to come inside and get cooled off with the AC

80F - puts hoodie on

Can now go outside with shorts and t-shirt

70F - hoodie, jeans, shoes (usually heavy lined boots) and long sleeve T-shirt

Finally comfort zone, windows open AC off, shorts t-shirt, good weather temp

60F - thermal underwear, full dress, light coat, knit cap

Close some of the windows, still in shorts and t-shirt and sandals.

50F - heavy coat on top of all for 60F

Same as 60 but now closing all but two window, like the cross ventilation Still in shorts and t-shirt

40F - stays indoors, preheats truck until internal temp reaches +90F

Close windows house will warm up on its own, still in shorts and t-shirt

30F - space heaters, several candles, hot coffee, will NOT go out unless it's an emergency

Turn on heater warm house back up to 50 or so, still in shorts and t-shirt

Put on long pants, t-shirt and a hoodie, still in sandals but with socks.

Time for a brisk walk, finally put shoes on and a wind breaker waiting for it to get cold.

0F - movement begins to slow even further

Let it snow let it snow let it snow, time to go make snow angles.

Time to put the liner in the jacket and put on hat and gloves, -40 that's the temp that the same C and F. Time for long johns and parka.

It is cold today down in the 20's, I guess its time to look for long pants.
